Well Im excited to say that my hubby finally is coming home on R&R next month.he told me the date he's flying out and everything. My question is how accurate is the flight schedule they give the guys when they're coming home on R&R? he told me that depending on the weather condition overthere the date might change but more than likely it wont( im praying about it).Im worried that if i put in for time off from work now his dates to come home might change.so im thinking about waiting til the last few days to see if I can get a personal leave from work instead of putting in for vacation time off now in advance.so can anybody tell me how the whole R&R travel process is and if its accurate, any info will be greatly appreciated thanks....

Those dates are not accurate at all and are subject to change. My BIL was delayed about a week last month when coming home for R&R and when my husband came home last year he was delayed by a few days. Cause of their delays? Sandstorms!!! Other things can cause delays as well, such as planes that break down.

As with everything with the military, it is all subject to change! Good luck!

True. Depending on where he's flying out of--I won't say where the norm is, but I'm sure your husband's given you an idea....sandstorms are a major factor just getting out of that area. Once he's out, it's pretty smooth since more than likely it's commercial that he's flying in on.
Summer months are notorious for sandstorms....this year they say that they're going on a little more and longer than in the past couple of years.--I don't know, I've not paid attention to it before so I'll take their word for it. Wink

so do you guys think that my best bet is to wait for the last couple of days and take a personal leave from work to be on the safe side?I already warned the people at my job and explained them that the military its very unpredictable and things are subject to change all the time.So until he boards the plane out of the sandbox nothing its accurate?Hopefully they will understand and not give me a hard time

My husband was a week and a half later getting here for his R&R than the original dates he was given. Once he made it to Kuwait, he still had to wait for a few days. So, I wouldn't count on it being the exact dates that you have been given. But you know it will be around those dates. Once he gets to Kuwait, hopefully he will be able to call you with his actual travel plans. Or, at least that is how it worked for us.
Hopefully your job will be understanding. Have you talked to them about just letting you start your vacation time once he gets home?
It will all work out. Enjoy your RR time!

Will for sure keep my fingers crossed for you! Just make sure you understand that the new dates he was given might change once he gets to the airport. My husband did a lot of waiting. I hope your job will work with you. Cherish every minute of the RR. It goes by way too fast, but try really hard not to focus on how many days you have left and just enjoy it! Best of luck to you!

Please come back & let us know how everything went... how long did it take him to actually get home, did he have long waits at a buncha different airports, did he get upgraded?!!
I'm sure you had a fantastic time, and if the job gave you a hassle, the heck with them! Your soldier being home is the only important thing!

Hagenmary, thanks for your concern.Well its been almost 3 weeks since my dh went back to the sandbox and i've been trying to stay as busy as i can.it took my dh like 3 days to get here and yes he did have long waits in kuwait, germany, atlanta. even though he did not get upgraded he was lucky enough to be one of the few soldiers to be able to get a confirmed flight from atlanta to where we leave so that was pretty cool.the people at my job were pretty understanding and they let me take the entire 15 days off to be with my dh and i used my vacation time and got paid so that was even better.we had so much just spending time together and my husband spoiled me rotten LOL. so now im just waiting for the next 2 months to go by, they told us that my dh should be home no later than the second week in november and i cant wait.

Those dates are SOOOOOOOOOO not accurate. But no matter when he gets home, he will have his 2 weeks.

I hope that your comment is in regards to the initial line of the original post because lovingmyhusband is the only one (besides her husband, of course) who actually does know the accurate dates of his R&R and travel arrangements.

If you were responding to the first line of the original post then you should have quoted that line so people would understand what you meant.

I do have to ask, what are you basing your comment on? Your profile indicates that you are in some fashion an E-1 in the Army. That level of experience generally doesn't give one much basis to make such broad generalizations.
