I just got back from a IA deployment with 1/12 in Ramadi Iraq about 5 months ago. I just selected a ECRC billet had picked Iraq but it was not available until months after my PRD, So the offered me HOA/Djibouti.
My questions are for those that are there or who were recently there. How's the infrastructure as far as living quarters, crappers, shower facilities, Internet access, chow halls, gyms, MWR facilities ect. PX/BX ect. I really wanted to get back to Iraq because it has a pretty good set up. I already know it's hot as And current info would be appreciated I role out to ECRC San Diego in about 5 months. Thank you HM1 (AW/FMF) |

You should probably post this in the Navy forums. This section is actually spouses and other loved ones and very little active duty.

Shipmate-sorry for the late reply.
Djibouti-has limited infrastructure, but has a very tight in-house community. Very unforgiving living conditions, extreme heat, mild winter, sheer boredom. However, onbase community and residents take care of one another. I was there 6 months and survived and I know you will too. Lot's of Navy, Army, Marines, Civilians in and out of there. You can Scuba Dive in Djibouti, go to a 5-star Hotel and they have a brand new Cantina and DFAC. Navy Exchange is there. Last I was there I lived in a Tent. Now it's CLU's. Some CLU's have individual showers, top 3 and senior Civilians., internet access is horrible but it's there. MWR has video games and movies and pool and golf. They have an awesome Gym and outdoor basketball court area. Hey they even have two swimming pools. It's a tough assignment let me not kid you. But you won't die. You'll be better for it. If you get a chance, go out in town and experience the local cuisine especially Ethiopian food. The Djiboutians are very friendly and wickedly poor. So sad. They are good people though. Take care. v/r SK1 Charles Rivera (RET) USN Longwood, FL USA
