depends on your definition.. to ME, anything over 4 months is a deployment. anything under..a TAD or underway period.
and then of course we have those units that are gone for 12-18 months straight....
so really, it all depends..anywhere from a week to 18 months( with the vast majority being in the 6-12 month range) and of course all those small ones in the course of any 12 month period can add up to 8 or nine months total....

Sure. Army? 12-15 months, depending on the unit and or Task Force..or Special Forces, MP, CID, EOD, etc..... those named are on schedules all their own, known only to those in them.....
Air Force? 4-6 months or less..... or more if they are augmenting the Army.
Marines? Yes.
Navy: They ship too.
Bottom line: Every service deploys. There is not a set number of months per year they go..like 6 out of 12 months.... my husband was just home for his 18 days of home leave for the year...he'll be back in Feb of next year. Maybe. He left Nov of -last- year.
I got an email awhile back on my AKO saying that boots on the ground was getting pushed back to 12 months, effective sometime this year (I'd have to go back to look at the date). Then the way that I've usually heard of it (assuming it's regular, Active Duty Army) is units having deployment rotations - which is "supposed" to be a minimum of 12 months, maybe 2 or 3 years if you're lucky.
BUT that's a best case scenario - there are lots of variables that can come into play with deployments, and it's hard to give a black and white answers. It's yet another one of those things where it's not the smartest thing to try to rely on others' experience as a standard, because you may end up disappointed.
Everyone is right with the "not really knowing". My husband is in the air force and they got back a few months ago from an 8 month long deployment and were actually scheduled to go back out in a few months. Things happen and sometimes you never know how long it will be until the time comes. Let's just say 4-18 months. That doesn't even include any of the training that they have to go through before hand.
In te perfect world the Army deploy 12 months and come home for at least 12 months but my husband went twice and the first time he stayed 13 months and te second time he stayed for 15 months.(It's never the same for everybody, some can deploy for less some for more no matter what the paper says.)
Everything depends if they need you, where and for how long. Anybody who sign in no matter the branch needs to be prepare for deployments because they are part of the job.
my husband is NG-he was activated for airport security for 6 months 2001-2002-then for Iraq for 14 months Nov 2003 to Jan 2005-and in country for 12 of those months. He was activated in march of this year for a second trip to iraq-although the unit doest mobilize til next spring i dont see him often-hes not "home" so that will be about 28 months before this time around is done. My friends hubby is AD-in the last 5 years he has been home 27 of 60 months-so it just depends on the unit, the mission and the needs of the army.
