(I already posted this in a different forum on here so i apologize for the repetition. just thought maybe someone who comes to this board had a similar experience)
Hi. new kid on the block here. my name is alicia and my husband, michael, is in the Army. he joined in August 2001 (fabulous timing) out of high school. he joined the 4th Infantry Division out of Fort Carson, CO. He did one year in Korea and one year in Iraq. His ETS date is August 4th 2009 After returning from Iraq, he was placed in the IRR (Individual Ready Reserve) and rejoined civilian life. he always had it hanging over his head that the Army could call him back up anytime before August 2009 but he still enrolled in school and is working f/t as an electrician. we also got married, bought a house, and started our life. it wasnt like he could hang around until they called him up. well, on june 24th, they did. he received a letter saying he was "relieved of his IRR status" and placed on active duty. it said he has to report to Ft. Benning, GA, on August 31st for a "partial mobilization for Operation Iraqi Freedom". there is also a small print about being assigned to the 81st Brigade in Seattle WA. anyway, the Reserves kept bugging him for the last year to come to "accountability musters" and for him to keep all of his info active. these "musters" turned out to be him and a recruiter in a room and the recruiter trying to get him to join the reserves. they kept wanting him to join the Army Reserve with a 2 year non deployment guarantee, but he would have had to do the "one weekend per month" thing. all the signs were there that they were prepping for him to come back. now my question is, has anyone heard anything about this? has anyone been called to be part of an IRR partial mobilization or know anyone who has or know what happens? the order said that he is to transport himself to Georgia for no more than 25 days for "mobilization processing" and has to bring clothes, stuff for PT, etc. and that they will reimburse his expenses. the letter came in a regular envelope, no certification/special delivery or anything. in true army fashion, it is supervague. we have no idea what to expect. he has been out of the active duty service for four years and would need training so im wondering what happens. it sounds like they are reassigning him to a whole different unit and maybe even MOS. will they send him there to train and then deploy when that unit leaves? will we get any warning? will he leave right from GA? aaahh! i know no one knows for sure with the Army but if anyone has been in a similar situation, i would really appreciate knowing what ended up happening. i am realistic and prepared if he has to go back to Iraq (as best as i can be, this will turn our lives completely upside down, no question) but would feel better if i at least had a little more info. any responses are appreciated! thanks, alicia |

Since you've already been given the answers to your questions, are you now just shopping around for the answer you want to hear?

wow...fancy seeing you here! 1)i'm not looking for an answer. i wanted to see if anyone else knew anything else about this for more information. nothing more nothing less. btw, where are these "answers" i got that you speak of? i believe they are called "replies". 2) are you a mindreader? what is the answer that i 'want' to hear? there isn't one. 3) is your only purpose to lurk on this board and make snarky comments to people who are actually using it for its intended purpose? maybe you need to 'shop around' for a new hobby. 4) thanks so much for making me feel welcome. looking at your old posts, sounds like you've done a bang up job of that. |

and you can just rein in the attitude, there, alicia.
you have been given answers to your questions in the Army Forums. They are the ones most equipped with the knowledge and experience to give you the information you are looking for. you do NOT take personal grievances against other posters public. you either deal with it privately via email one on one, or you report the post and let the Mods from that area handle it if they find reason to do so. what exactly are you wanting? support? the Spouse House can offer that. but none of us can tell you what will happen.. We don't know. There can be no freedom without sacrifice |

Alicia, after going over the post that was done in the Army Forums, you really got the best info you could possibly get.
Sorry no one could be more specific, but they're pretty much doing the same thing. "I swear to God I didn't do it!!!" |
