Hey all,
I was previously in the ANG for 6 years(Afghan. Vet), and currently in Air National Guard. I am in the process of getting switched back to Army, the Reserves recruiter told me I could get a direct commission in their unit. I was wondering if I get a direct commission, will I have to attend Officer Basic School only or will I have to attend oblc I, II, and III. I am really confused on what schools I will be required to attend to be commissioned. There are a bunch of different answers on the web. What schools do I hve to attend?? Thanks |

A lot depends on what you are going to get commissioned as. The purpose of the DCA is to get people in that have current relevant experience in an AOC that needs skilled people, like JAG, Medical, Dental, ect.....
These people only go to OBLC, and no follow on AOC specific schools, because they were commissioned for possessing that knowledge already. Basic branches can do DCA's but usually only do so for people already serving as an NCO in a similar MOS compared to the branch they are commissioning into. The DCA process is a long, very long, and very trying process. If you want in the basic branch as an officer, you are much better off going through OCS. You'd be commissioned quicker if you went through AOCS. However, if you want into AMEDD as a medical specialist or medical service corps, most of those are DCA only. Good luck either way. The Army Reserve may do things differently than the Guard, which is where I commissioned into, but the process should be similar. |
