Currently in the guard as enlisted. Don't ETS till 2014. I'll be honest cause I want real feed back. I don't like being in the military. My ETS is 2014. I am currently finishing my BA in Accounting and will graduate in Dec. I plan on going OCS next year in 2010, though I didn't sign anything yet. I plan on becoming and officer to get out in 2012 after my deployment in Afghanistan in 2011. I am currently in FA as a 13D and thinking about becoming an FA Officer.
As a side note, I heard of people taking absent of leave for a year in their contract. Is it possible? I want to teach English in Korea or Japan for a year.
If you start National guard OCS in 2010, it will be Zero Phase in March. You'll hit Phase 1 summer 2010, Phase 2 one weekend a month until the summer of 2011, and then Phase 3 at the end of that summer. You'd commission September/October 2011. You wouldn't get a slot at BOLC II (BOLC-b?) until around January 2012 at the earliest, and you wouldn't be deployable until summer/fall 2012. You'd be activated for 365 days or so, give or take how much "state" activation they tack on to the front end for training. You'd basically be full-time from Fall 2012 (at the earlist) until around Christmas 2013. The catch is that you have to serve the state you commission into for SIX years from your date of commissioning. That means you'd be serving until the Fall of 2017. My advice? stick to what you're doing. Being an officer is fun, but not the same fun you get out of being a Specialist or Private. If you're only doing it to get out or not deploy, you're doing it for the wrong reasons, and won't make a good officer. Sorry boss.
I forgot to mention it was Accelerated OCS not traditional 18 months OCS. Also I heard you didn't have to serve six years and that the minimum is two years in the guard.

Talk to an OCS recruiter. MAJ Hoskins, on these boards, is full of this information. I have a 6-year tag. You would barely make 1LT in 2 years. I think you might be confused with enlisted contracts; they get their money's worth out of us Occifers.
