Has anyone else heard that the Reserves are reducing the retirement age by one day for each day deployed overseas?

I just read about it yesterday.

A DA MEMO came out 28 July 2008. For every three Months Mobilized in support of GWOT/CCO on and after 28 Jan 2008 you get three months taken off the retirement age of 60.

I totally call shenanigans on the after July '08 bologna! Either service is worth earlier retirement or not. This should apply to all 9/11 MOBs. And Desert Storm/Shield for that matter! The politicians (all of 'em) want the 'I support vets' bragging rights, but want to keep the costs as low as possible, so they nickel & dime around with dates!.

On a similar note, the bill to extend the stop-loss 'bonus' back to 9/11 passed the House and should be voted on in the Senate in the next day or two. We'll see what happens...

I will have to shrug and Roll Eyes at your SHENANIGANS and raise you three Nuggies and a Wet Willie.
I am looking at the DA Memo it was published 28 July 2008 with an effective date of 28 Jan 2008. I know they are trying to get it back dated to 9/11 but as of now that is a NO-GO.
As for Back dating it to Desert Shield/Storm, I highly doubt it.

Never say never. It passed the house 368-60 (H4326), passed Senate committee 30-0 and is now in the Senate (S1054) as we type...

(The DS/DS is a pipe-dream, I know)

You're pretty optimistic for an old-timer, First Sergeant! Cool

Well, the $210M per year to pay for the improved retirement was too high, so it got dropped for the 7th time in 8 years. House pushed for offsetting cuts or revenue for this proposal but no offsetting cuts or revenue for the banking bailout. Go figure. If they had proposed a 10% "defense tax" on the top 50 hedge fund managers (over $29 billion in pay for last year) they could have paid for the pension and given us a break. Seems that being in banking is better for our country than serving in uniform.
