I was told by a newly direct commissioned officer that I wouldn't be able to go active if I got a direct commission in the army reserves. Does anyone know if this is true? Has anyone with a direct commission gone active?
Any member in the military, whose skills are required to perform a mission may serve on Active Duty. I was a direct commission officer in the Army National Guard and have served 10 years on Active Duty (but as a USAR officer). There is a distinction between serving on Active Duty and being an Active Component officer. It is highly probable you will serve on active duty with a reserve retirement plan and benefits as opposed to being active component and gaining a 20 year retirement and AC benefits.
