Ok I messed up. I failed the push-up and situp section of my ROTC APFT this morning. Was 2 reps short on each. I am a contracted MSIII Cadet. What is going to happen? Will I have to do remedial PT or ?????

The ROTC staff should be counseling you on your options (if any).

You will be on remedial PT until you you can pass a PT test.

Ok actually I was wondering the same thing. I mean, I am ok with doing what ever PT they want me to until I am up to par but I do NOT want to just be thrown out or wash out or anything like that. My situation is that I am a first year cadet, not contracted, with either a service or the ROTC. I am due for my first APFT monday and I know damn well I can not pass the running but I know that I can ace the other two events. I understand the first time I fail this it wont be the end of the world but how forgiveing would it be in the future?

Great News. I did not fail. I misread the standards. I got a 201 score. There was someone who did fail, and they told him he would not get his stipend for this month

I'm also a contracted MSIII cadet, and I'll be on remedial PT as well. I scored a 265 but the battalion standard is 270.

270 standard ouch. I have been only working out for a few weeks. I should be in the 270 range by the time we go to LDAC.

People that fail the PT test here just don't get any benefits until they pass it and they do the same PT as the rest of the cadets. No biggie.

Thank god, its just living with the embarassment that is hard then. What killed me is we had one PT before the APFT today,so earily in I am guessing this is just a "first glance" type thing.

my battalion likes having a 270 average but we slacked on it last year so they moved us to 3 PTs a week. we're workin hard to get that 270+ back because sleeping in on friday is amazing. here if a CDT fails the APFT, he gets yelled at pretty harshly and there is always the threat of losing a scholarship, but during the time i've been here, no one has lost a scholarship for APFT failure.

Wow, you guys are lucky. We have a 270+ average but we do PT 4 times a week.

We do PT three times a week - Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Where I am there is only one PT test for record per semester. There is a diagnostic PT test every month though. Regular PT is 3 days a week (a total of 3 hours) Ranger PT (Voluntary) is 5 days a week (a total of 13 hours (3 hours a day except pool day which is one hour).

yeah PT only on mon and wed was beautiful! cadets were motivated enough to get out to the gym and work on their own two years ago. last year they apparently weren't, so 3 PTs it is. those who failed an event are going to be going to 5 PTs a week until they can pass it.

Seeing as meeting the 60-60-60 standard is a joke the punishment for a cadet failing an APFT should be a bit more severe then a slap on the wrist.

it really should be. the folks who are barely passing are going to be in for one hell of a rough ride once they get to their units. as (future) officers, we should be setting a very high standard!

One thing a lot of cadets don't understand is the concept of being able to follow before you can lead. That is why and this is strictly my opinion, SMP cadets will and do make better officers. Every officer I know scores a 300 or better on his/her pt test.

Yeah I'm going to get my input here: Being in SMP does not make a cadet a better leader. The only thing it does is give the Cadets a little bit of experience ahead of time before going to LDAC etc. This is experience that will be gained anyways when the Cadet becomes a 2LT. As for the APFT, as future officers you need to LEAD from the FRONT. This crap about barely passing, and sometimes failing the PT test is sad. We are at war, go do some frickin push-ups and sit-ups and run yourself into shape if you failed or barely passed. Even in the FSC I'm in, you many Soldiers scoring above 270. I wouldn't want to be that LT that is suckin wind and falling out during unit runs (and some do, I've seen it) If you are barely passing the PT test at the ripe age of 21-23, you are in for some hurtin later on.

Extended scale. "The scoring algorithm includes an extended scale, by which soldiers can earn more than 100 points in an event by performing better than the 100-point standard. In order for a soldier to earn a score of over 300, he or she must obtain 100 points in each event, meaning that a soldier can not begin to use the extended scale for any one event until 100 points are reached in all three events."-Wikipedia result
