Lesbian Mayoral Candidate Attacked

Annise Parker, who is running to become mayor of Houston, was the subject of an antigay e-mail campaign.

Houston controller Annise Parker, an out lesbian who is running for mayor, was attacked on the basis of her sexual orientation in materials e-mailed by an antigay group on Sunday.

The homophobic attack arrived via a press release to promote the Christians for Better Government voter guide, sent to thousands of potential Houston voters, according to the blog, GayPolitics dot com .

“Annise Parkers lifestyle that of being a HOMOSEXUAL is not the proper role model to lead the fourth largest city in the United States,” said the press release, as reported by GayPolitics.com. “The Bible speaks clearly against the lifestyle she represents, James 1:8 says, ‘A double minded man is confused in all his ways’. She does not believe in what the scripture says about her lifestyle which in return means she doesn’t believe in God.”

Parker is one of four major candidates in the non-partisan mayoral election scheduled for November 3. Should she win, she would be an openly gay leader of the country’s fourth-largest city.

I bet you are wrong and it was just some bigots who claim to be Christians while ignoring the teachings and words of Christ.

The "Christians For Better Government" denies sending this bigoted, hate filled e-mail and their leader Rev. Wright has denounced it.

Christians For Better Government is not a Right Wing group and has not endorsed any of the candidates for the Houston Mayor's race (Yet).

No one has found out who sent this E-mail but according to the above article, City & State laws were broken. I hope they catch the individuals and put them into a nice Texas jail where they will learn the consequences of their evil ways. Big Grin

No claim was made that it was officially sent by the "Christians for Better Government" group the statement was

Anonymous attacks (and IMO lies) for political purposes have been the hallmarks of many right wing so called "Christian" groups for years. These groups seem to believe that anything do is Ok because they believe (say they believe for most of the leaders IMO) they are doing it in Gods Name.

I don't see any reverse bigotry here.

Darrell didn't say "All" right wing or "All" christians. He said "many right wing so called "Christian" groups". I inferred he was referencing those groups of people who claim to be christian (a religion of love) yet spout hate in the name of their god.

Bigotry: stubborn and complete intolerance of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one's own.

Unless, of course, you mean bigotry against groups like Westboro Baptist Church (who protest at Soldiers' funerals saying "God Hates F*gs") and their ilk???

If stubborn and complete intolerance of those groups' creed, belief, or opinion is your idea of reverse bigotry, then I confess that I am a reverse bigot and dang proud of it. If I caught those pukes protesting at a funeral of one of my friends, i'd put my boot up their fourth point of contact so far, they'd be tasting shoe polish. Smile

What about you Kathy? Would you consider yourself to be a reverse bigot against Westboro?

Do you have a "stubborn and complete intolerance of" Al Qaeda's "creed, belief, and opinion" (since I assume it differs from your own)? If so, this screams of reverse bigotry and you should hang your head in shame. GASP!!! Razz

LOL

Big Grin

Peace,
Paul J

Bigotry generally stems from a hatred. Hatred can be justified when there's a good logical reason behind it. If there is no logical reason for the hatred then they are just plain old bigots that cannot justify their inept feelings. There are many types of bigotry, some justified, some not. Certain Right Wing Christian groups like Westboro Baptist Church give military personnel & LGBT folks ample reason to hate them and therefore it's justified bigotry.

So then, sometimes bigotry is OK? Do YOU....have all the evidence necessary to decide when it is, and not....re: Westboro and all other?

But Kathy Lee, you still have not answered my question. Do you have the intestinal fortitude to admit you are bigoted? Possibly against homosexuals?

(Also, it's obvious you have a reading comprehension problem. Go back and read Jim's statement again.)

Not withstanding your 'observation' about comprehension....I WILL admit to bigotry against pedophiles, irrespective of orientation.

Following Paul_J's recommendation, I've reread this and concluded from it that....if certain racial groups give other racial groups reason to hate them, then it's justified bigotry. If a member of one gender gives another reason to hate, then it's justified bigotry. And, if a member of an orientation gives members of another reason to hate, then it's justified bigotry. So, applying this rule to a fellow who posted here implying that he was given reason to hate gays (his name was Steve, I think), his bigotry was justified. Yet, despite his justified bigotry, he was roundly criticized here for his "bigotry." He was accused of being in need of psychiatric/emotional help, presumeably because his bigotry was directed at homosexuals. Could it be that this dichotomy of opinion unfairly targeted him?

Why is it when someone does not agree with gay issues.....They are called "HOMOPHOBIC"?

It doesn't make sense! The gays can throw-up the discrimination flag to the heterosexuals if they even say ANYTHING againist gay issues PERIOD! And they sure do use that "TRUMP CARD WELL"!

Man, this makes me sad that someone in this day and age would get attacked like this. Sometimes I really think Christian groups like this are never going to be happy until they manage to turn this country into a V For Vendetta style police state that represses all rights that are not in their best interests. This type of behavior disgusts me as an American. If they believed they were right, and they believed this country really was governed by their beliefs, they would have a little faith that the voters would make "the right" decision.

This is spitting in the face of the democratic system. Make your actions known through your votes not violence. The irony is that it's counter productive to their cause as it'll garner more attention to Parker and what she represents.

The good news is that we're due for Christian leader gay sex scandal anytime now.

Allow me to copy/paste what I said above:

"Hatred can be justified when there's a good logical reason behind it.

And Add:

The "Steve" story (from another topic) gave an example of how a person can unreasonably hate a entire group of people based on what one person did to him. His hatred toward all homosexuals was unjustified, but his hatred for the pedophile who hurt him was justified. If all homosexuals were pedophiles, then Steve would have a good logical reason for hating all homosexuals.
