N.H. Republican: Repeal Gay Marriage Law

A New Hampshire Republican wants to ban the same-sex marriages set to become legal in January.

A Republican state lawmaker in New Hampshire said on Wednesday that he plans to sponsor a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriages when the legislature reconvenes in January.

Governor John Lynch signed a marriage equality law passed by the legislature this spring. It is scheduled to take effect on January 1, but a conservative lawmaker, Daniel Itse (pictured) from Fremont, wants voters to consider the issue in a constitutional amendment, according to the Boston Globe .

“Republican Rep. Dan Itse is affiliated with Citizens Leadership of New Hampshire, which was created a few years ago to highlight threats to constitutional freedoms,” reports the Boston Globe. “He said Wednesday he will sponsor two constitutional amendments when the Legislature reconvenes in January. One would make only marriages between men and women recognized by the state. The other would prohibit the state from abridging a parent's right to control their child's health, education and welfare.”

The legislature would first need to approve the amendment, which if passed, would be presented to voters in November 2010, after same-sex marriages become legal.

Until I saw the video, I thought that this was some kind of prank post.

Then I watched the video.... O.M.G.!!!

I do see racists occaisionally, from all parts of the color wheel. But a JP that refuses to obey the law because of his bigotry?? UNBELIEVEABLE!

I agree, un-frigging-believable! Imagine, a government official telling others who they can and can't marry. All because of his biases. Utterly despicable, wouldn't you say?

I see. But one is a refusal to obey the law, and the other is an attempt to change the law.

I see a difference there, do you??

Yep, sure do.

One is a law that's saying bigotry and unequal treatment is not moral nor fair.............that's cool.

The other is a fight to repeal a law that's saying bigotry and unequal treatment is moral and fair............thus the fight goes on.

I see some similarity there, do you?

Actually IMO it looks like "one is a refusal to obey the law" and the other is an attempt to use people's prejudices to get more political power.
