Obama Considers Gay Ally for Running Mate

The blogosphere is abuzz with speculation that Lt. Gen. Claudia J. Kennedy, a retired three-star general, is one of a dozen people under consideration to accompany presidential hopeful Barack Obama to the polls this November. According to PinkNews , Europe’s largest gay news service, Kennedy has supported campaigns to overturn "don’t ask, don’t tell."

Kennedy’s consideration for running mate could appeal to many different groups, reports PinkNews . Former supporters of Hillary Clinton could align themselves with Obama should he choose a woman as his running mate.

Kennedy’s military record is also part of the equation, as American voters have a history of electing military leaders to political positions. Kennedy served in the Army for 30 years and has a background in Army Intelligence, reports PinkNews .

According to PinkNews , Kennedy served as an adviser during John Kerry’s unsuccessful 2004 campaign and endorsed Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination this year. ( The Advocate )

Interesting option -- a 3-star general for a running mate; a female; and a gay ally. That ought to drive Elaine Donnelly and her anti-gay, anti-women in the military group crazy. LOL.

Biggatorsc, what makes you think LGEN Kennedy is a lesbian? Would you change your mind if you knew she was married with kids?

If she's not a lesbian then my bad. But no it wouldn't matter if she was hetero because I wouldn't vote for Obama anyway. I'm thinking that Jesse "The Mind" Ventura will come out of the wood work shortly as an independent, if so I'll vote for him.

From my limited dealings with the Army, I have to admit...it wasn't an unreasonable assumption to make.

I've noticed that about most of the homophobes non-supporters of equality: in order to make it work in their minds they have to assume that the only people who would support gay rights must be gay, themselves!

That way they can subconsciously denigrate the entire gay rights movement by minimizing the support base. It's one of those little mind tricks that helps them cope, the same as claiming it's a "choice".
