i made a mistake when i said a SF batt. on Okinawa purchased 84 468 uppers. it was actually 416 uppers. if the US military switched to the 416, they would be built here. the M-4 is a good weapon, but the 416 is said to be a superb weapon. money is the root of all evil, and that will never change.

it is as far as i know. SIG has picked up a contract with Armored units, and non-military agencies. i think MEU's still get thier .45's. and JSOC gets watever it wants.

Standard issue is the Beretta M9. The Sig M11 (P228) is issued on a limited basis to those that need them, i.e. CID. M1911's and etc. are issued to specialty units. Contrary to what everyone thinks, not all SF forces carry a .45 or 1911 for that matter, most just carry the standard M9.
at the beginning of the year, the entire coast guard switched to the .40 cal Sig P229. It's carried with hollow point rounds (when inconus), otherwise, we have to stick to the normal NATO M9. it just depends on the location and the mission assigned. law enforcement in the US carries the sig with hp.
Everything is switching over to polymer is seems, pretty soon there will probably be a polymer machine gun. But then again, its pretty strong and light.
Is there any CAR-15's still being used? I thought it was perfect for the 80lbs. you were carrying on ur back, plus all the ammo you could hump. Full auto too. Iam sure by now its been retired. The oldies are old, but they are still good. Look wat they did to the M-14. Wow!
If the Iraqi military is switching to M-16's, who is the supplier? Will it be a mix of different companies? Whoever it is stands to make a ton of money...thats wat this war is all about right? The cherry on top is a pro-US gov.

It's probably in use somewhere. The CQBR is its modern equivalent; it's mostly in use with the SEALs I believe.
The Marine Corps asked the company LWRC to come up with an assault rifle that can be used as a LMG, CQB, and a longer barreled sniper rifle. The Corps seems to be more flexible, and this rifle is called the IAR. Its a 6.8mm semi or full auto, and has a barrel you can change for distance shots. Can anyone provide more info on this? Sounds great.
