FN-MAG58 or L7A1/C6 maybe, but a M240 doesnt use that style of Flash Suppressor, or Gas adjustment Valve. I note the Sustained Fire Sight Bracket is missing off the reciever as well

GPMG means General Purpose Machine Gun.
An entire category of MG, such as the M60, M240, MAG 58, MG3 etc not a particular gun.

You guys are right about the MAG58. We swapped out the stock from a M240 but still haven't picked up a USGI barrel (with gas system) yet. I wasn't sure if most of you guys knew what a MAG58 was because this is a US military website.

The first time we took it out and loaded a belt of ammo the bolt would strip the round but there wasn't enough force to fire off the round. After talking to M240 operators on Lightfighter.net they clued me into the fact that early model feedtrays from MAG58's were not designed to use M13 USGI links.

I loaded up a 200 round MG42 belt and the weapon ate the whole belt up without even a hiccup.

thanks,
Ron

Yep, that would be a FN MAG58. I have about 7 of them in my inventory. Pain in the *** to get parts for. I am trying to "procure" some M240 barrels and swap them over as well as new top covers so we can mount optics on them.

Got to tour the FN facility in Columbia SC back in 87. They were rebuilding 240's from the 1950s for euro armies! Pretty durable. I havent fire a 240 since 87 and the weapon was brutal to fire but very reliable. Has anyone shot a new one? Have they midigated any of the recoil?
