I will start by stating that I am not a serviceman. I do have family members that have been and are currently enlisted in the services thoough. I am involved with public service in my community, and have served for many years. I work at a local hospital, in which is part of the reason why I am seeking help about this topic. I know a gentleman who had served in the corp. Served in vietnam, and was injured. I know him and his family, as they only live a few miles from me. I had once courted his daughter, and we are still good friends. This gentlman lost his leg in Vietnam, in 1966. Occasionally he does come in the emergency department because he continues to have stump pain. He is a good man, a family man, and is well respected. He loves this country, loves the Corp, and is proud to have served. I have never asked, nor will I ever ask about what campaigns he was involved in, or any other details of his time in Vietnam. I have been curious though, and want to learn some about his ordeals. The only information I have to go on, is that he was airlifted out in 1966, (unknown month)... was in Bravo 1/9 3rd MARDIV. I have been made aware of the fact that these gentlemen sustained more casualties than most, and they DO NOT care to speak of it. Therefore, once again- I will honor that, and never ask him directly. So I have tried to research some on my own. Attempting to do the process of elimination thing, and I believe I have gotton warm at times,... only to go cold shortly after. The Battling Bastards of Bravo seemed to have been in many conflicts, and in that time frame (year off 66') I have seen after actions reports including S-1 reports, only to find a limitless amount of information, but nothing I can really narrow down. I have read articles, and stories about "The Lost patrol", near Hoa Tay, approx six miles south of Da Nang. Yet I have had a hard time narrowing the seach for specific battles, since it appears that campaign was drawn out for some time. I am seeking information or links that would help me find out more about what they have endured; and only attempt to understand more about the men that have seemingly gone through hell. I have looked at detailed maps, and have searched what seems like everything I can, and am unable to locate anything solid
Key terms/names/phrases that do seem "warm" are:
Operation Independence Feb 66'
Ky Lam campaign May 66'
Operation Liberty July 66'
Operation Macon July-Oct 66'
..and Operation Georgia

May 12th 66' - Hoa Tay "The Lost patrol"

I have been unable to locate the village (if it even still exists) on all maps, and even google earth..

I do know he was in/around Da Nang which does go with what I have read about the Lost Patrol

If anyone knows where I can find more accurate information, or anyone who was invloved with this and can point me in the right direction, or correct me from anything I have stated here, please do, it would be greatly appreciated...

Thank you for your service; and thank you for reading.
