Question:

Is the age limit for pilot slots waiverable?

I'm being offered an AFROTC slot (2yr) by my school's unit, and the cadre tell me that the pilot age limit (I'm almost 28, I'll be a few months after 30 when graduated and Commissioned) is waiverable.

None of the other open source info I have seen hints that a waiver is available for age. The cadre have been nothing but professional to me, and I don't want to seem like I'm less than trustful of them, but it is a very important decision, and I'd like to have all the facts.

If it matters, I'm a Mechanical Engineering major, with a 3.25 GPA, no prior service.

* What is the age limit?
* The age limit for UPT candidates is 30 years of age. Already commissioned officers need to have less than 5 years of commissioned service. There is a waiver process for candidates who do not meet this requirement.

It's from an ANG UPT page but I can't imagine it would be different for other UPT programs.
BTW-When I first saw an enlisted recruiter, I was worried about an age thing because I had never seen a waiver mentioned and my recruiter didn't even know but thankfully his boss did. Probably because it's an "Exception to Ploicy" and not a waiver. If they say they can waiver it, trust them if they've given you good info on other things.

Depends on "needs of the Air Force." if they are hurting for pilots now then one might expect they would waive it if you make the cut - no guarantees though. Your Major is not an objective factor except how it helps or hurts your GPA.
