I'm considering applying to AFROTC (at Manhattan College, if that makes a difference,) and I was just wondering, what will the average week be like? I know I could ask the recruiter, but I'd rather get info from those doing it. Also, is there anything I should know about? I.E. physical exams, etc. I haven't done real exercise in years (not that I'm overweight- I just don't have muscle tone), is that a problem? Or will that be built up with time?
You will have PT 2x a week, and as a freshman (AS100) you will have an hour of class and a 2 hour Leadership Lab once a week each. There could possibly be some weekend meetings you have to go to. There will be the opportunity for more ROTC related stuff outside the required events. Don't talk to a normal recruiter as they will know virtually nothing. Get in touch with the officers and NCOs at the Detachment you are looking to join. The PT test is very easy and if you can't pass it it doesn't take much to get up to speed.
And that's really it? So all the obstacle courses, arms training, etc. are all compacted into those four weeks? And while we're at it, what exactly will that be like? The web site isn't very specific.
Field Training has undergone some major changes this year. the obstacle courses are minimal for fear of someone hurting themselves. Weapons training is now M9 familiarization and you are unable to qualify other than pop off a few rounds at the range. Those 4 weeks of fun currently take place at Maxwell AFB, Alabama. The first 11 days are at Maxwell in the cadet/OTS area, form there you will transfer to Camp Blue Thunder at Maxwell for some basic deployment training then you will go to the Joint Training Facility run by the Army called FOB Ike in Mississippi for the remainder of your time at FT.
If you look here you will find out a lot about the program and FT. Make good use of the search function as virtually all questions you could have have been discussed a ton already. read through the site a ton before you post anything as they don't tolerate morons well. READ and SEARCH FIRST before you post.
