I decided to join the Army, taking ASVAB on the 2nd of July. I live in Missouri, so I assume i'll be going to Fort Leonard Wood.

My question is, 2 weeks ago, I spoke to a recruit and my only real concern was while doing all the hard trainning, and due to having a high metabolism, I'll drop alot of weigh. I'am 5'8 in height at 122 pounds. I eat well, and I been working out for a past week, still didnt gain anything. Not to mention i'am healthy too. The recruiter told me they have a line for fat and skinny people, the skinny people have fattier foods. Then he said all the fat ill be eating will turn into muscle, but i thought it turned into energy? Where any of you underweight (and i mean males) before you joined? Most topics I seen over the net is just people overweight topics.

I really dont want to graduate as a toothpic. Part of me wanting to join is to get stronger/bigger...i'll need that as a infrantry men, besides the heart

I'm 5'10", and a few months ago I weighed 125 soaking wet. It's hard for others to believe, but gaining weight can be as hard for some people as losing weight can be for others.

The problem is (often) skinny people don't really eat as much as they think they do. To boost your appetite and make yourself want to eat more, train & exercise more in addition to eating as much as you can 4 or 5 times a day. And don't just eat "anything", eat healthy foods and foods high in protein. As you gain muscle, you'll gain weight. I've gained over 15 pounds so far that way.

Just pump out those pushups / situps / chinups, go on ruck marches and get on a running / swimming schedule. It will probably take more than a week to notice any major gains, but you'll get there.

Also, don't weigh yourself right after exercising. You WILL weigh less (due to sweat / water loss). I once managed to lose almost 5 pounds due to sweating / dehydration during a ruck march, but as your leg muscles develop you will GAIN weight.

Good luck!

For 11B and 11C, you will go to good ol' Fort Benning, regardless of where you live. We had 'em from NY, WA, CA, FL (me), and everywhere else in the US. Fort Leonard Wood has OSUT for 31B MP and 21B Combat Engineer. They also have BCT at these places, but it seems to be people working in commo, etc, other "behind the scenes" MOSs.

I enlisted at 133 lbs, 5'10". I graduated 155 lbs (same height of course). So you will most likely gain weight. We didn't have a double-rations line, but when we had leftover field chow, I actually had to eat all of it because I was skinny (I considered it a privilege).

Eat lots of meat, whole-grain bread, PB&J, cereal with milk, etc. Best of luck!
