Happy Saturday to you! I haven't heard a thing from my son since last Sunday evening. I am currently in North Carolina - away from my home state - I left my son a list of phone numbers but I don't know if he will remember that I am on vacation this week. Unfortunately my cell phone will not have reception in the mountains so I may miss a call if he gets to make one this week.

I have sent numerous cards and letters this week. I sent him a book last week and saw in the blog where a guy received a book and they took it away from him so I hope that is not the case. I'll wait and see what happens. He sounded so good last week that it made me feel alot better.

I hope you had a good 4th. Thanks for asking for an update. I'm anxious for August 22nd to get here - that's for sure.

Take Care

Awwww Bobert...thanks for asking!
Long story short, we got a letter that was a "non-letter" today...I'll explain later.

Mimi...I am almost afraid to leave the house because I would miss a call! Yikes!

KK's mom.

Your welcome ladies, its great to hear how new recruits are doing and seeing them develope into out standing soldiers. I read your other post Mommy3k on how K was doing, seems she will be a great leader and someone her soldiers can look up to and trust.

Hello all,
Here's the scoop. I received a call from my son today. They allowed him 15 minutes for calls today. He called my cellphone and reached me in North Carolina - we talked about 8 minutes - then he called his dad in Michigan and they talked about 18 minutes. It was a nice day for phone calls.

I was extremely disappointed to find out that they took away his book I sent him. My frustration stemmed from the letter that was sent home saying to send care packages as the soldiers like to get them, only to find out everything was taken away. I didn't even send food. He did ask me to send him some soap and shaving cream and that he will be able to keep that stuff so I hope the items Mommy3k sent to Kayla will be good to go.

He also told me that he is trying to figure out who Kayla is, but that they have two Kayla's in that group. He said the guys and girls are not able to talk though and two guys have already gotten in trouble for this.

He said he really enjoyed the fourth of July. He said they went to the fair and got to dunk the drills sargents in the dunk tank. He also said he finally got to eat junk food - had pizza, hamburger, Monster drink, Snickers - then went and was sick. Hadn't had junk food for so long it took a toll on him.

He sounded great and said things are going well. He said he gets sad when reading letters as he misses home, but he is adjusting well.

Just thought I'd give an update.

Take Care.

Don't worry about the book. Just remember he's still in the most restricted phase of his training, and they're just trying to remove possible distractions from the intense training he's going through. He'll probably get his book within a couple weeks as the rules are relaxed and he's allowed a few minor distractions for his personal time.

hey mimi. so glad you had a nice long call. i'm on the broken computer, so forgive my lack of caps and such. shift keys are not working right.

sounds like your son is doing well. that's too bad about the book. they probably don't have much time to read, just like they don't have much time to write. that's cool about the fair. kayla didn't say anything about that, so maybe not every platoon got to go.

i would be surprised if our kids ever figure out who eachother are. sounds like there are so many trainees there right now, besides the guys/girls thing. have you heard anything new about graduation and family day...

I haven not heard anything new. I'm anxious to find out more details on the family day activities. We are planning on driving in on Wednesday. I also want my son to find out when he will be released - I am hoping right after graduation, but I'm not sure how that will work. We are planning on driving home on Saturday so I hope that we can do so.

I am trying another care package - this time I put in the shaving cream and soap he requested but I also included Q-Tips, toothpaste, cleaning wipes, padded paper, envelopes and his phone charger. Hopefully this time they won't take anything away from him.

Isn't it funny that they are all right there together, but yet things can be so different between the two groups. I hope you have more phone time next week. It is great when you have a few extra minutes to get more of your questions answered, although I still get off the phone kicking myself for forgetting to ask this or that question. That's why we have paper I guess.

Hope your week is starting off well. Take care.

Hey Mimi the closer it gets to family day you will recieve info on what will happen. My folks said they got noticed about 3-4 weeks before family day. After graduation your son will probably be ok to go with you because other soldiers who are heading to different bases for AIT will be going as well. Right after our graduation we were released within 3 hours, but that was longer then usual because someone in the company stole some cameras and we had to unpack in front of the Drill Sgts so they could check our bags. But if all goes well he should be released to you all within an hour. Your new care package should be ok, let us know what happens.
