GOOD LUCK and remember: Don't speak until you're spoken to, keep eyes/ears open and stay awake/alert in class/training. If you start to feel sleepy, stand up and go to the back of the class. And if you should have to go on sick call, DO NOT FALL ASLEEP while waiting to be seen. And always remember to make/keep any/all copies of your military records, esp. your medical records and be sure to keep your personal file up to date as well. And take any/all of the Army correspondence courses regardless if it pertains to your MOS. It shows your NCO's/OIC's that you're very interested in learning anything and everything and it also counts as promotion points.
And one more thing, bring some pre-stamped post-cards. Doing so will make it a quick/easy way to keep in touch with family/friends to let them know how you're doing and how/where to keep in touch.

I am so happy for you! It helps to be excited about it, just remember in reception, you're going to get a taste of what it's going to be like....you can't do ANYTHING without permission! It'll kind of feel like your a prisoner, but it's just the first steps in making you a soldier. Also, always know that the DS's don't like or dislike you on a personal level. NOTHING they say you should take personally, with that and all the other advice from everyone else, you should be rockin! Have fun, it's a once in a lifetime thing!

What do you mean by the Army Correspondence courses? Do you mean I can take those during basic training?

No, you cannot. Even **IF** you could, you wouldn't have time nor Internet access to do so.

Your days at BCT will be totally planned. The only real "free" time you will have will be between 2000 hrs and 2100 hrs. That is listed as "Personal Time." However, this time period is sometimes used by the Drill Sergeant(s) in order to put out information, pass out mail, or render "corrective training" if necessary. **IF** you get the entire hour of personal time, it is usually used for letter-writing, personal hygiene (showers, brushing teeth, etc.), or going to sleep early.

DS' will make it a point to not show any type of friendliness or favoritism towards recruits. they are like this because of their job/position. They MUST remain as neutral as possible. However, there will be recruits who end up on the wrong side of DS' and there will be those who are not farked with by the DS' (this is as close to "friendship" as a recruit will get). You will figure out who those recruits are if/when it happens.

The key to staying on the right side of the DS' is to do what you are told, when you are told, how you are told, where you are told. It's too easy to do what is required. You will not be asked/ordered to do anything that is dangerous, that you cannot do, or anything that is harmful to others. Other than that, just go with the flow and don't take anything personally.

Good Luck!

And remember, DO NOT refer your training as BOOT CAMP. That is where the Marines send their trainees. Since you enlisted in the Army, you will be going to Basic Combat Training. Smile
