I was wondering, between Air Force BMT and Air Force BOT, which one is harder? I've done a little research on both so I do understand the difference between the two, I am just wondering which one is harder to go through?
You can't really compare the two. I lovingly refer to BOT as the best 13 weeks I never want to do again. My prior-enlisted classmates all agreed that they would rather go through basic again than OTS. OTS is just fundamentally different. A LOT more leadership emphasized from the very beginning. Time management is a challenge for both BOT and basic, but BOT applies a LOT more responsibility on the trainees.
BOT may be reduced to 9 weeks from 13, and by the sounds of it, the MTIs are going to have a much more hands on role in the future, whereas they directed a lot of the training, but the upperclass OTs handled a lot of the actual "face to face" stuff. Doesn't mean we didn't get MTIs up in our faces though. Just sounds like it'll be a lot more of that than in the past.
Neither program is easy, and again, they are fundamentally very different and it is difficult to compare the two. If you qualify for both enlistment and commissioning, then do the thing you WANT to do. Don't ever base it on which program is easier. It's only a few weeks, and then the rest of your career. Think about what you want that career to be, and just put your head down and get through the training. It sucks big time, but it's only temporary so in the end, it's not that bad.
I agree with Go_Blue13. I was prior enlisted before attending OTS, so I have been through both programs. I found OTS to be much harder both physically and mentally. I also agree that you should not make a decision based on which training is harder. The training is only a relatively short period of time (although it feels longer while you are going through it). What you will be doing after training will be for years, and will often be harder than the initial training. Decide which path you want to take (officer or enlisted) and then go for it.
Thank you both so much! It really helped me out! I am definitely leaning towards OTS, since I will have a degree by the time I join. If you don't mind me asking, how were your experiences?
