My dd is at BCT (actually probably still at reception) right now at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO.
She called and asked me to send her Bible. I've been looking at the boards and trying to figure out whether that is a good idea or not. From what I can tell, it is best to just send letters, stamps, pictures, and phone cards. What do you guys think? I know she has the little New Testament and I'm guessing she can get a Bible at Chapel this Sunday, although she really wants her own with her notes and underlines and such.

Also, do I have to wait for her to write me to find out what her mailing address is? When will I be able to find out when Graduation will be, so I can request the days off work?

Thanks :-)

She will contact you with her address once she is assigned to a company. She will be sending you every piece of info you need as far as graduation day. As far as her bible goes, yes she can get one at chapel on Sunday, but I have never heard of not being able to have a bible, whether hers or one she picks up.

BTW this is a just a guess but her graduation will PROBABLY I say probably be end of August or beginning of Sept.

Thanks BobertM.
I'm just going to hold tight on the sending of the Bible for now.
I certainly hopes she will be graduating before September. She is just a senior in high school and I think School starts august 20th. I seem to remember something like that in her contract (about her having to be back by a certain time). she is doing the split option and will go tto AIT next summer for MP school.

Hoping we get a call on Sunday for Father's day...

I would go ahead and send the Bible, especially if she has asked for one! Space is limited, so I would find a small one in whatever version (NRSV, NIV, King James, etc.) she prefers. Boot camp is filled with stress and this could be a good outlet for her spiritually.

God bless,
Robin

I was given a bible at MEPS and in Reception. I gave mine away, but bibles are all over so there should not be any problem with her having one. If she wants a bible she certainly can have one and get a hold of one...

Thanks Seabee and bobdob...

We had a call today from dd and she's still in Reception. So far, so good! I'm sure she has the little Gideon version of the New Testament, so that's good. She thinks she will be going to her unit on Monday or Tuesday.

They did have their innoculations yesterday, and she said the boys took them way worse than the girls...LOL!

It is HOT at Ft. LW and that's about it. Poor dd doesn't realize she is not really at BMT yet. We were surprised to get the call today again...but, very nice.

One minute calls are both good and bad! Good to hear from them, but bad to not have time to ask questions!!!

Anyone know if reception counts toward the 9 weeks???

I understand that reception counts as one week plus the 9 in BCT for a total of 10.

Yes Ft Leonard Wood is hot, I did my basic from July the end of Aug. But its better to be there now instead of the winter when it gets really cold. I still have my Gideons Bible from basic.I carried it with me when ever we went to the field or other things.

I heard that you can bring a bible. I leave in 3 weeks and I plan on bringing mine. I know you can get one there, but I can understand why she wants her own. Especially, if she has it marked up for her studies and such. If she asked for it then I'd imagine it's ok to send it.

Thanks Jaime. I still don't have an address for her, so I can't really send anything yet! The waiting is excruciating...you may wish to warn your loved ones about that. Thank you for your decision to serve.
