Ok so I am 18 years old and going to MEPS on the 28th of July. Due to my braces, I won't be able to go to BCT for at least another 16-17 months, and that is just an estimate.
I am reeeeally out of shape. I have gained 10 pounds since last October as well. I did martial arts for 5 years from the age of 10-15 and then didn't for three years cause we moved. Started back into it teaching last year and it kicked my butt. I can do crunches just fine but I know they will be different in the military. I don't know if I can even run, and I can do two push-ups max. Any advice? I can't seem to motivate myself to really keep at it. We have a treadmill, bike, and bowflex in the house, they are just covered up with junk. I use a "gazelle" on some weekends. I just don't seem to be seeing any results. I know why though, can't stick with it. I have almost two years to get into shape but I know I have a lot of work to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Before starting ANY diet/excercise program, you'll need to consult with your doctor first. Get a physical from him/her to make sure you have no underlying medical condition, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, etc, that you may be unaware of. He/she may get you a consult with a dietician and a fitness trainer as well. Either way, don't bother with the military until you lose the weight and get yourself mentally and physically fit. They (the military) wants you to be in the best shape (again, both mentally/physically) before you make your initial appt and prior to shipping out. Just take your time and don't rush. And agin, seek proper medical advise.

Thats excellent advice, alot of people are not in the best shape and when they want to lose weight some will just crash diet and thats not the best thing to do. I remember in basic we had a guy came in as an E-3 because of college, he washed out in 3 weeks because he was a little overweight and truthfully a mommas boy. When the DI's would yell at him he would stand there and cry couldnt do anything. We tried to work with him but it didnt work he just got real lazy. Being in a great mental state will work in your favor. I still remember the guys name and can still see him. Please go to a doctor and get checked out before you start any diet or exercise routine, and good luck and keep us posted. But please take the advice and do this the right and healthy way.

Oh I'm as healthy as a horse. My blood pressure is lower than most people's but still in the "normal range" and I'm not overweight. I'm 5'2" and 114 pounds. I used to be 107 back in october and lost three pounds already since but I'm just trying to look for advice on how to get motivated. I was with a physical therapist and she gave me exercises and I just haven't done them in a loooong time. My biggest problem is upper-body, like most women. I'm weeeeeak!

Get yourself a workout partner. It's much harder to ditch your workout when you have someone to hold you accountable.

The toughest part of working out is the initial effort. For example, for me it's actually motivating to get my butt off the couch or doing whatever it is I'm doing and get out the door. Once I'm out the door, I'm committed and I go and put forth my best effort.

With all the exercise equipment you have, you really have no excuse for not exercising. It sounds like you have plenty of time, so you can start out slowly and work your way up to where you need to be.

Take the advice you have gotten so far and run with it.

Good Luck!

Actually, that's my other problem...I DONT have a lot of time. I am starting my new (part-time) job in 22 minutes and I have another full-time job already so I really don't have a lot of time, except in the evenings.

Thanks everyone for the advice, and Matt, I think I will go ahead and RUN WITH IT!!!

If you're properly motivated to enlist, make the time. Get it done. Everything else is an excuse.
