I'm in RSP, a guy there just got back and told me that his training was pretty normal, but the other company got almost no PT smokings and, and this was hilarious to me that he thought it was a big deal, they got Laffy Taffy. So, really, expect to share BCT with females all around you, besides that, I've only heard that it's maybe not the worst, but it'll be tough anyway.
I just signed up for Army active and reserve, and shipped on January 4, 2008. I have to finish my school first before I go to basic. Email me for more information about bootcamp if anyone can. Thanxs! Meowcollege1@hotmail.com
I just got back from Ft. Jackson a few weeks ago. Now I'm in College working on my commission.
Ft. Jackson can either be a great experience (for me it was the best experience of my life) or it can really suck.
Just don't do anything stupid, dont EVER backtalk a Drill Sergeant, ALWAYS do what you're told. It really isn't hard at all to adapt unless you make it hard. I had fun the entire time because I was squared away and stayed under the radar, while other people go the **** smoked out of them.
Just wanted to give you my thoughts on Fort Jackson. I am currently 10 days and a wake up from completing my AIT training as a combat medic and will be going to flight school shortly after I return home. Then taking the AFAST to try and get into pilot training and WO school.
Anyway... Foxtrot 2-13... The best company ever! 4th Platoon War Dogs. The Drill Sergeants were awesome. But for those that say "relaxin Jackson" didn't obviously walk in my shoes. How many times did we get smoked? Let me start by saying that it would be easier to count the days that we didn't get smoked!! It was due to us having some soldiers that liked testing the limits and pushing till we all paid the price. Remember, there is no "I" in the military, always a team effort. Upside...did great on my PT (final APFT at AIT 345..high company female, possibly males included, haven't found out yet)!! Regardless of where you go, it is what you make of it and what others around you make of it.
Here at Fort Sam Houston, same thing applies. I'm in Alpha Company 232 which is known as one of the toughest companies and I would tend to agree. And just like Jackson, somehow I have ended up with a group (450+ started, 310 so far graduating) of soldiers that are more undisciplined than our 1st Sgt has seen in 19 years of service. Nothing to be proud of, for sure.
Keep a positive attitude and volunteer for anything, especially leadership roles. DS's do remember your face from the rest and show you the appropriate respect for going above and beyond what is asked of you
P.S.Fort Jackson, bay with 50-60 females, Fort Sam Houston, 60-90 females!!
Graduated from Fort Jackson a few years ago I can't tell you how things are now but I can tell you what was mentioned is to stay below the radar. Beleive it or not you will miss basic at some point in your future. You will be doing alot and you will be tired. Early wake up and you won't go to sleep until maybe 2100. Everything about basic is to keep you stressed the duration you are there. If you do what your told you will stay out of trouble but you will defenately get smoked. Someone will screw up and mass punishment is a must. You will hate inprocessing which is a week long the longest week b4 basic. There is a good posibility you will end up working with someone in your platoon in the future so don't piss people off. I'm currently in theater and I've come accross many who I went to basic with. Pay attention and what ever you do DO NOT FALL ASLEEP durring classes. After grauation depending on your MOS you will ship directly to AIT, Expect more Drill Seargents they are a little more lax but they will still smoke you a new one.
Hey im leaving for basic jan 22 to ft jackson so im trying to cover all the basics im sure its asked alot by begginers and appriciate all answers. My job is 25r my recruiter told me my son and wife will move with me to ait will I be able to live with them right away, how do they get moved he said the army does it... would I possibly be able to have a few days after basic because id personally like to go help with the move its our first time and she is a little nervous.. also for and 25r's what is a day like in the life of a 25r, where do we most likely get stationed and deployed that sort of stuff. dumb question but if I have a basic millitary watch will I be allowed to have it in basic?
blackhawkmedic6- you are doing just what I WISH i could be doing or do? I really want to be a combat or flight medic...instead I am headed to AIT as a truck driver...not too excited for that.
Also...how good did you do on your APFT? What Im asking is like what was your time and numbers? Im just curious cause I would like to achieve that "high standard" and was waondering what it takes...Please let me know thanks

Easy stuff....the hardest thing I had to do was go through the gas chamber. You will get smoked, have to low crawl, and do lots of flutter kicks/push ups but not hard it you're in shape and have played sports'n stuff. The worst part is putting up with all the idiots who shouldn't be there. Over all it goes by so fast you'll be gone before you know it. Little advice: keep track of all your equipment, people steal so lock your locker, buy a watch, be on time for formation and make sure everyone is, do not take a PG or squad leader position you don't get paid enough to put up with the bs, and don't be the weak link the Drill Sgt's find them and ride their ***. You'll have fun choose your friends wisely. Oohh Lastly make sure your weapon is on safe and you clear it you'll be suprised at how stupid people are.

Ohh, thanks for the advice Sauer34, I appreciate it, I need it. I am leaving in two days, on Wedesday on the 2nd for basic to Jackson. I hope I will make it. With all the help, I will be positive. Thanks again, and take care.
GLUP! I Leave for Ft Jackson on Monday, crazy time has flown! Its so close, Im freakin out, nervous, excited a whole mixture! AGH! WOW...WISH me and others luck all!
The only thing that really sucks about basic is being so dirty at times. You can feel miserably dirty and wet, especially if you have bad weather for Victory Forge.
