What should one do to prepare?

In terms of running, swimming and strength training.

Running- Whats a good distance to be able to run in what time before going?

Swimming- What type of stroke and how long is a good amount before going?

Strength Training-What type of excercises and how many of each is a good benchmark? Also, where should hand placement be in certain excercises (pushups, and pullups, etc)

Currently Im concentrating on core strength, including situps, pushups (regular), pull ups, squats, planks, leg lifts. Also running about 2.5 miles every other day, shadow boxing on days not running Wink

I was just looking for some feedback as to an appropriate excercise routine in preparing for bootcamp. Just to make sure im on track.

Thanks All.....Much appreciative

Sounds like you are in really good shape and you should do fine. Here is a link to read more about the physical training program:
http://www.uscg.mil/hq/capemay/Fitness.htm

When I was a recruiter, I used to have applicants look at the requirements for the final PF test, and say "Shoot, that's nothing, I can do that right now!" True maybe, but they didn't take everything into consideration. Your company commanders will have you doing incentive physical training constantly in the early weeks. I retired from CG Training Center Cape May in 2000, where I served as a recruit instructor. I wasn't a company commander, I just taught classes to recruits and watched over recruits being discharged twice a month. Some of the incentive training exercises included diamond push-ups, alpine skiers (I thought that one looked too easy until I tried it myself!), leg lift scissor kicks, regular push-ups of course, and running in place. Sometimes they will just have you get down in push-up posititon, that tires your arms in a hurry.

One other thing, there are awards some recruits will receive at recruit graduation. One that may interest you is the physical fitness award for the recruit who has the best overall physical fitness. There is also an award for the most improved physical fitness given to the recruit whose overall physical fitness has had the greatest improvement.

Any other questions, please let me know. Good luck.
