Bringing my laptop and Phone to boot camp

I was told I could bring my laptop and phone to boot camp and during boot camp they keep it in a locker for you. Is this true and is it a good idea to do this?

Do you get free time on Sundays to go get your gear out of your locker to type, take photos with your phone, and such?

I don't know I have had a ton of miss conceptions about this. I was told it would be sent home as soon as you arrive along with the clothes you are wearing on your back as soon as they give you an issue of clothes.

I bleed really bad when I shave. Do I need to bring this up before boot camp? I do not know why, but can I get into trouble for having blood all over my face during boot camp?

Leave your laptop at home. Some of the Army posts are allowing recruits to make a final phone call home before sealing the cell phone and others are actually allowing their use. If you're going any other branch (it's kind of hard to tell which branch since it's not in your profile and those on the outside refer to all basic training as boot camp even though that is not an Army or AF term) then just leave the cell phone at home also.

Yes, you will get in trouble if you have blood all over your face. Have you talked to a doctor about why you bleed so much? This could be signs of another issue. Just stop cutting yourself when you shave and it won't be an issue. Not being facetious here. I can honestly say that I can probably count on one hand the number of times I have cut myself shaving in the last 20 years.

Air Force - btw

I did a little research and it looks like I might have razor bumps. You can get a waiver for this in the military, but you can't grow a beard with this. I'd probably shave every 3 or 4 days since I have a full grown beard in a week.

Should I mention this to the recruiter or just wait until boot to meet with a military doctor?

Try the Bump Fighter razor. It's made for black dudes, since they supposedly get more bumps/razor burn/folliculitis. Works pretty well for avoiding bumps and such.

also some people get shave bumps because they dont use the right shaving gel, Talk to a doctor about it, and see if there is a dermatologist recomended shaving gel you can buy at a pharmacy.

i used to get them when i used gillet or how ever it's spelled, i switched to barbasol and Blam! never again did i have shave bumbps

You can use a small battery powered elec. razor also. They do have the bump fighting razors and creams. It has been a fews years since I attended BCT but I imagine they still will not let you get your stuff out of lock up at anytime while you are there. The next time you see it will be when you are leaving.

If you are going into the Air Force, do not call it "boot camp', it is BMT.

As far as bring a phone and laptop to BMT, you CAN, but it will get locked up until you graduate. You will not be able to use it anytime during BMT. I brought my phone so I could use it on my way to Tech School. I did not bring a laptop, but I bought one on my town pass after graduation and my MTI just locked it up until I left for Tech School.

They will not send anything home that you bring with you, they will just lock it up with the rest of your personal items.

Any other questions just PM me. I graduated BMT last October.

Really really bad idea. All bags are thrown into a closet and alot of times at the end people learn to break into the closet and steal what they can. Dont bring anything to basic. Get your family to mail it when you can have it again.

Maybe I can help you out I just got out of BCT at relaxin Jackson and yes its to freaking easy!!!!!! BCT was a joke if you want a real physical challenge youll have to do alot of PT on your own. As for your laptop and cell Dont bring your laptop leave it and have your family bring it on Family Day. Now bring your cell because they will take it and put it in a plastic bag and lock it up. Now I was in Delta 3/60th and our DS's were by the book so no cell phone use unless you were calling over seas and only in White Phase and it was at the DS on CQ that would maybe let you have payphone time. Now with that said there were some companies that got their phones and screwed it up because it only takes one slow speed high drag kinda screw up to lose anything good. So its a roll of the dice but Id buy a good phone card before you leave..

From what I understand, basically anything that you bring with you is locked up until the end of basic. Anything that's mailed to you during basic is... well, I don't know, but I've been told that if you want anything during basic that you should have someone mail it to you (and don't have them send cookies or you'll all be doing extra pushups to burn off those calories). Wink
