I was speaking with a friend who just returned from USMC basic training and the told me that everyone, regardless if it is necessary or not, has to have their wisdom teeth removed once they arrive at basic training. Is this true?

if they aren't already removed, they will remove them for you.
That may have changed, however when I went to boot camp in 2000 they didn't pull my wisdom tooth (yes only had one). I didn't get that pulled until my third year in the fleet.
in AIt with the Army my wisdom teeth were noticed and noted, but they never pulled them. So, all I can tell you is that the Army does not pull wisdom teeth unless completely necessary.
regardless. if you can get them taken out before hand, i would do it. i did. i only witnessed and heard stories of those that got them pulled at basic. i can tell you i don't know of anyone who enjoyed it.
My son went to Navy Boot Camp @ Great Lakes NTC on July 16th and he had two of his wisdom teeth pulled last week and the only reason they didn't pull all four was because two of them were in his jaw bone.
So they pull them even if your current Dentist says that they are fine? My dentist said that they are fine and actually doing good on helping align my teeth... would they still pull them?
mine were fine and in BCT they didnt touch them unless you were in the category where it may impede your training. In AIT everyone got screened and cat 3 and 4s were pulled at some point. They told me my teeth were fine and i should get my wisdom teeth pulled sometime in the future but they are not effecting anything right now.
