I can not do as many as they want just yet but i am working on it. I am not quite sure that i can do the 2 mile run in the time that tjey are wanting to either. What am i suppose to do?

Continue with the plan your recruiter gave you. You still have some time left to prepare, use it.

Yes, you get paid during Basic Training. It might take a few weeks to get started, but you'll get it.

I would say that it would be in your best interest to do some sort of moderate physical training before you go off to basic. Enjoy your time before you leave but don't binge on mickey d's, budweiser and what not because it will just set you back.
They kinda force you to be healthy so you will have that advantage of not being tempted by getting to eat whatever and whenever you want.

I do have some questions about basic, I sign my papers sept 10th and will ship out to fort Jackson shortly after that. I am 31 yr.old female, weighing 175lbs,Height is 65 inches and 2% above tape right now. Working very hard to make tape by the 10th. I started off at 204 lbs. I can run a mile in 11 min but still having trouble completing the 2 mile. Can you please give me some advice on how to continue to prepare and what I should expect after getting to fort Jackson. I also have 2 years of rotc completed from a couple years ago but chickened out and didnt join the first time. IS this going to get me a little greif?
Thanks

Couple of questions.
I run the mile in 8.07 mins. Is that good? I'm not good at the mile and so far I just can't get up the energy to attempt the 2 mile again.

I'm terrified of heights. I freak out crossing a bridge and suggestions on overcoming it?

I'm 5'4" and 120 lbs. Is that good or do I need to adjust my weight? Less or more. I also went through a anorexic stage when I was 13. Thankfully, not lasting damage was done to my body. Will that affect anything?

Also this is a ridiculous question. Is basic co-ed? That's a deal breaker with my parents. They are hard core catholics and will not let me early enlist if they are unless they are a 100 percent sure we will be seperated.

I'm enlisting Army.

You need to be fit before you go to Basic!

Its not good to go COMPLETELY out of shape, it will be so much harder, not only for you but for your body too. Thats how the majority of ppl that come to Basic get injured and end up being recycled, which YOU DONT WANT!!

wORKOUT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, work on your push-ups, sit-ups and running...but not only that, everything and anything physical, helps!

Can someone tell me what is a recruits 'roster number'? My son just started BCT last week and his address came in the mail today. On the first line it says rank, name, roster number. Not sure what the #RN is. Would it be his line number? Or is the line number just for reception purposes?

He's at Ft. Benning.

Thanks,

You should ask this in the Recruiting Questions forum. You'll have a better chance of a helpful answer there.

Debbie your Roster Number is what you are referred to in BCT. Its basically a number you are issued and occasionally you have to use it on paper work. It's just as if your were to go to prison and they assign you a number, you are known by that number first than your name. Obviously not as harsh as that, but you get the gist, hopefully.

I want to do a little bragging here .when I was volunteered into the Army my d/sgts told us that we were in hell on earth and we all believed them in a week or so.Run,you guys are crying about running two miles, how about eight before AM chow then we would run all day where ever we went.Run to the rifle range, run to bivouac, run to do pt.Run everywhere. we even ran to get in line so we could low crawl. Love it,now.Hated it then.Saved my ass from what I learned in basic while in Vietnam.
Drill Sgt. I just want to say to you and all your cadre, thank you.

I have researched the question I am about to ask, but am still unsure about the exact answer.

Branch: USMC Age:24 Weight: 215
Ship Date: Oct 20 2008

I plan on losing as much weight as possible but will probably not meet the required weight. I can and will pass the IST.

If you get a waiver to ship overweight what are the consequences?

Addtionally, will I have to pass the IST at MEPS and when I arrive at the MCRD?

The only consequences to shipping overweight is it will obviously be harder for you to do PT.. The good thing is you will lose A LOT in BCT (One guy in my PLT dropped 35lbs) plus logically the more you weigh, the more weight you have to 'carry' when running, and push-up and sit-up.

Try to lose as much as you can, safely, but you absolutely will lose weight at BCT. If you do not, you may be put into a special weight control program in which they will cardio you A LOT in addition to PT or in leu of it at the commander's discretion.

Ok.

21 yrs old. 4% above tape.

I can do just under 40 pushups and can easily max out the situps.

Ran the 1.5 mile in 13:30

I am going to MEPS to join on 12 November and will stay in RSP until at least 1 March 2009.

Any suggestions?

I need to lose the 4% by 12 November. I know between then and 1 March I can get into much better shape.

How am I as of right now in the grand scheme of things? Am I that much more out of shape than most people enlisting?

Is it true that when you are in boot camp they try to break you down(mentally) and then build you up as a better person, because I use a technique of creating an "imaginary home" and living in it in your mind in times of stress, which I heard somewhere people in the military would sometimes use if captured to keep sane, is that true? and if it is, would that hurt the breakdown process as a whole, or help?
