Has anyone ever used their GI Bill to pay for tuition expenses??
If so, how long it took them to get reimbursed?
It has taken us more than 2 mos. and yet, no response from the VA office on this....

Did you get a letter back stating what you were authorized? If so, then did you verify your monthly enrollment? It took quite a while for me getting my initial paperwork filed, but each month and each course is usually pretty quick in getting a response.

Also, try using the Wave website to check the status of it https://www.gibill.va.gov/wave/default.cfm

You can also verify your monthly enrollment on that site.

I’m using my GI bill now, but it took them about four months before I received my first direct deposit from them. It was like pulling teeth…at first they said that they couldn’t find where I was eligible…then they finally found the paper work saying that I did contribute the $1,200 dollars. I also contributed an additional $600.00 dollars (the buy-up program) so that I could get the maximum benefits, but again they couldn’t seem to find that paper work either, until I faxed them a copy of it.

They (being the VA) finally gave me everything I was entitled to, but I had to stay on them to get it. The hard part is that it’s not like you can go to a local government building in your town to sit down and fix the problem. It’s all done by telephone and by corresponding by email to the VA.

You will get your money…just not as quick as it should be. I feel your frustration about this whole GI Bill thing. It’s unjust treatment to Veterans who have served their country, and contributed their money into a program thinking that they will reap the benefits to better themselves, and when it’s time to collect those earned benefits the VA makes you jump through hoops to get.

Sorry, I don’t mean to go on a rampage here, but this is a sore subject for me to hear another story from a Veteran trying to go to college…its seems to me that Veterans by a large percentage are getting the run around with their GI Bill benefits which you earned, this is not some government welfare subsidy.

Anyhow Criscy, here is a phone number for the GI Bill you can use to help you find out what is going on 1-888-442-4551 and here is a web link to the VA that will help you also

Got my first check today. I kept up with the paperwork and when I had a question I called the VA office. Simple process if you ask me. I would suggest starting the paperwork 8 weeks before the semester starts (about the time you register). It feels good getting paid to go to school. That $1,800 I parted with then is paying me back now!! I intend to use every penny of my MGIB!!!!
