To save you some time, here's the scoop:
What a load of crapola. I've shot off no less then 3 emails to my states rep's to blast this bill. Though it's law, doesn't mean it can't be amended. I think it's a shame that they will go after companies who go out of there way to hire vets (retired and otherwise). I've used this form of supplement and used tricare standard for 3 yeras now, they are just now finding out it's costing them? The bill, 5122 has a lot of good info in it and goes to show how they can sneek in what ever theywant, under the radar. What's next, not allowing people who work at wal-mart from shopping at the PX or Commissary? Yes, I can still use tricare, and I can get money from my company for not taking a company provided policy, but not as much. It's all about choice I guess. |

Here is a new twist on this subject. My employer Embarq (previously Sprint's Local Telephone Division) has taken this legislation to the other extreme. They have denied TRICARE as a waiverable Employee Sponsored Group Plan and FORCING me to take THEIR Health Care!! This places TRICARE into secondary payment position AND STRIPS A NICE $1800+ OUT OF MY POCKET for 2008! I spoke with TRICARE and the Federal Department of Labor whom both stated that this didn't sound correct. After a few heated emails back and forth between myself and Human Resources without result, I fired a final volley off to my entire management chain to include the CEO noting that the issue would land in my senator's office the next day (which it did). The following day, I received a long-winded, legalese reply from the Director of Benefits with attachements, etc... which I promptly fowarded on to the senator's office including my last reply to the corporate buzzards stating it isn't over till TRICARE, DOL and the Senartor say it is.

I believe that this may be governed by ERISA, managed by the US Dept of Labor. You can find information at: http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/health-plans/erisa.htm |

I think what 811 didn't clarify is most companies offer health care or you can elect not the take it. I doubt his company or any would FORCE you to take coverage if they allow others to opt out. We have people who's wives work for universities and medical facilites who have better health care. The company doesn't care. If you opt out of coverage, you get 700.00 bucks over a years time for not taking coverage. Had he/she not cut and run, maybe 811 could re-think the post. My company makes you take prescription coverage if you take medical coverage. Even though I can use tricare for this, I'm still forced to take it. Even if I didn't have tricare, why do I need to select a seperate rider for drugs? And isn't it amazing from the letter TC1USCG got that they are onboard for curbing costs to the govt, but they won't do anything to get the healthcare system in check. One word - chicken$hits
