you should attend before you get out. You get permissive orders (not charged to your annual leave). Your servicing ISC or PSSU can give you all the details.

If possable attend the TAPS class being held close to your home ( where you will be going to) check out the Air Force and Navy locations. You should not be charged leave and in some cases they can fund your travel.

I am not planning to retire for another 3 years or so. I went to this class and got a TON of great info, including stuff I am using today (registering with the VA, utilizing networking opportunities, etc.). I would recommend that you attend at your earliest possible convienence! Just my 2 cents.

There is a TON of info passed in a small amount of time at these classes. Attend before you get out, and there's no harm in attending more than one class. The CG will "pay" for one, and you can use leave for another if you have the time. Start planning as soon as possible though, and have a Plan A and B. This economy is not easy to say the least. Don't discount the Reserves, if you haven't considered it.

It's a very good suggestion to attend a class in the area you plan to reside in. This helps you connect with VA people in your area that you will need after you get out. This is a great help!

Good Luck!
