So if only rated at 10% by meb board and not needing any medication or medical care would you take the seperation pay or go with va compensation pay?
1. 10% equals $117/month comp. from va 2. separation pay minus 28% taxed in high yield savings equals $134/month(and ofcoarse would go up with time). Also, Is there any way to find out what va would rate you without handing over seperation pay first? |

Do you have a known date for separation? If you know for sure you're leaving A/D, you should already be starting the rating process through the VA.
The VA is normally more generous with rating a disability. Any of the services will give the lowest possible % just to move the paperwork along. If you haven't already been warned: that severance gets repaid once the VA offically rates you. If you leave the CG with a 10% rating, but the VA says you're 40%, your disability check will be short by that $117.00 until the after-tax amount is fully repaid. Oh, yeah, federal and state taxes take a big chunk. On the plus side, once you're officially rated, you can amend the tax return and get a refund. |
