RE: http://tech.military.com/equipment/view/89694/ac-130h-u...hip.html?eq_id=89694
The AC-130 gunships rule the ground from the skies, now with the V-22 OSPREY in inventory it would be an evolutionary step to loading the weapons systems on-board the V-22. Everything the HERCULES can do the OSPREY can do better. It's a smaller target, more maneuverble, able to hover over it's target, and is a newer flight platform. It should really be awesome! to the enemy. |

The V-22 would fall out of the sky if it had a 105 in it. The recoil from the Bofors cannon would kill itself. The C-17 might be better but I say stick with the C-130.

The 105 cannon might work in a V-22 if it was mounted similar to the 30mm. machine gun on the Apache, then I could see it working.

i don't think the V22 would be much in the psychological and terror department the rumble of a AC-130U with the combination of 20mm's 30mm's or 40mm's and the 105mm it leaves some enemy's scared. also a AV-22 with a 30mm or a .50cal or a 7.62 minigun might not itch the scratch of a enemy held up in a structure or a fortified position.
but' none the less i could see a AV-22 as a valuable anti infantry weapon or a possible anti tank solution for special forces |
