I'm interested in examples of aircraft that special forces (maybe the FBI Hostage Rescue Team, Delta Force, SAS, etc.) would use for getting to a developing hostage situation on the double.

Would a specialty team really be whisked from one side of the country to the other to be used in such an emergency situation? Or is the job typically assigned to a branch of the military that just happens to be close?

Let me clarify why I ask: in movies, whichever team the main character is in will learn about a crisis somewhere in the country, then he and his team will hop onto a helicopter and fly there, no matter how far it is. I guess I'm just wondering how accurate that is and how it's done in real life.

SF usally load up on a transport planes fly to where ever the crisis will be unless its the next city or county or cross state they'll use helos depending where they opperate from and troop strength with a small sweep and clear teams they'll use the MH-6 little bird with bench's which can hold a sixman team, for assault and hold they'll use UH-60 or one of its varrients to drop in a 14 man team. and if thats not enough they can fly in using the CH-47 to drop in an 2 assault teams and sniper support. with the advent of the V-22 osprey they can fly across country and assault from the same platform but when it across country or intercontinental they'll use a barrowed airliner or military transport plane.

Close. I'm a 60 pilot and we can carry 11 troops plus a crew of 4. The Kilo models (as I believe your referring to the 160th birds?) internal load varies as does their external load. Those aircraft carry alot of weapons as well. Now I'm not saying you can't fit 25 folks or more in the back if you take out the seats...just ain't safe.
