I read for twenty one pages in the Urban Dictionary until I got tired and quit.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=love&page=1
I think the majority of definitions came from very young people who are still kinda babies themselves, and who wouldn't recognize a hormone if it walked up and slapped them.

Yes, there were some pretty funny definitions too. Only saw one who based their definition on the Bible (scriptural) concepts 100%.
I do not think I have ever "lost my heart", as Judge Judy put it, to anybody! in my entire life.
I do think love is very much a conscious choice. By that I don't mean, "Gee, he's got lotsa money.... I think I love him". That's downright cold blooded. I don't think it is an involuntary, uncontrollable thing though("I'm in love, wheeeee!!!). When I can see that a man is never gonna love me, regardless of how good I am to him, then I definitely controll how much I permit myself to feel for him.

Gee, OC this is a deep. I’ve never really thought about it other than just feeling you feel in the beginning. Love changes as time goes.

I do know that love, is trusting. When you trust, then everything else falls into place.

Maybe those who have seemingly been seeking in vain for "something missing", will never truly find the depth of love that we crave until we finally meet the Master, who loves us with a perfect love. My favorite cousin said something to me to the effect, "The door of Heaven.... never really closed for the [family name]'s."
I have a vision of leaving Heaven to go to earth with a little regret or misgiving, and lingering at the door.

Ok, now you two made me get choked up. Man, I must be getting old and sensitive.

A funny story though. I dreamed a few nights ago that my dog could talk (he wasnt moving his mouth at all, just the voice coming out) and all he would say is "I love you". Ever since then, I havent been able to look at my little Frankie the same way. Isnt it funny how an animal can bring out so much emotion?

I think animals are the purest form of love come down from God, they are not polluted with the ways of people. I think God put them here for our sakes, I am really convinced of that.

OK, I am going to TRY to take a stab at this.... so here's my definition of love (to the limited best of my perceptions and knowledge).
1. Love is unselfish.
A Lover doesn't take an "outside" something-or-somebody which/who SHOULD be just a minor priority... and make THEM the major priority, to the point that the Lovee is robbed of.... time/money/help/assistance/love/attention, that they desperately need.
2. Love is kind.
3. Love is responsible.
4. Love is merciful.
5. Love seeks the best.
6. Love is honest and truthful.
7. Love gives.
I don't mean material gifts. I mean, the Lover actually gives of their very own being, in the continuing interest of the Lovee.
8. Love is peaceful.
9. Love creates security: financial, emotional, social.
It creates a spirit of confidence and wellbeing within the Lovee.
10. God is love, and all true love comes from Him.

Other than family and friends, there is no such thing as love!

Go to the beach and hash it out? I'll do the drinking, but I'll have my MP3 player on when it comes to the talk about "love"...

And yet, Duchess, at some point in time, our friends and boyfriends/husbands were strangers to us.... and we began to love them. Some people we never love, even when we get to know them better!

But.... God can do that! He does not have those human limitations to His love.

quote:
Romans 5:8, "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners [not yet in right relationship with Him], Christ died for us [He gave His most precious Gift]."
So God did not wait until we were in his family to love us, he loved us from afar.

"God is my refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." Psalms 46.1
Been a Christian since I was 11. The times in my life that I was unwise enough to live outside the Lord were very hard times and a hollow life. So:
Philippeans 4:8 "...whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honorable, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things"
