Just wondering, as a guy who is about to start taking the initial steps necessary(completing an associates degree plan that sets up a good foundation for naval/marine engineering) where some of you folks that have participated in the program went or are going to school.I am also curious as to any "roadblocks" you ran into in applying to certian schools (i.e. deemed to expensive, unapproved curriculum,etc..) Thanks in advance for letting me pick your brain.
Yellowhammermk, While not attending ACET I am currently a CWO going to school in the NET program. Once accepted and you decide to go your program manager will give some program and cost guidelines to follow and then you can choose the school. You have to submit a couple of degree plans and they will approve/disapprove you plans. Then you can apply and get rolling with school. They want you to go to a school where you are stationed or where there is a decent CG presence for possible re-assignment. I don't know how much that matters though I transfered to the location of my college ( Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste Marie MI) and I am going to be transfered after school. Anyways they are good programs take advantage.
I went through in 2001-2003, biggest thing is to get some help in the financial office of your school. The first time I submitted paperwork the ACET people at HQ told me no one was at my school, yet my first two classes had ACET shipmates in the same class. After a while I had a helpful person in the finance office who faxed up my paperwork every semester to HQ so they would get paid and I would not get kicked out of the classes I had registered for.
