I'm looking for advice on something I'm having trouble figuring out. I have an AA from Excelsior in Liberal Arts. I obtained it by having enough credits so I actually did not have to take a class there. I'm an MK but being an MK is a job to me and although I like it, I dont see myself doing that type of work after I retire. I have 6 years left until I retire and I am trying to figure out what would be my next career. I look at all of these online colleges and it seems it is all Technical/Business/Education/or like AMU, a lot of Military stuff. I do like the Sports and Health Studies degree they offer but I'm not sure how it would fair for a career one day. Any advice? Just confused and looking to see what others have done or how they decided on a college and degree choice when they did not want to do what the CG Institute gives for rating road maps or degree plans. Thanks-
I wouldn't waste my time with the sports and health studies degree. My wife has her BS from The Citadel in Health and Sports Sciences and their are no jobs right now. The best you can really do with that degree right now is take a class and get certified as a Personal Trainer, however, a degree isn't needed for that.
I recommend you find a counsel to administer a career instrument to help you match you education toward a career choice. They will help you focus toward a particular career goal. More importantly, you do not want to waste time pursuing a degree that will not help you obtain a career of your liking. If you have a specific question of me send an email to ea@navy.mil
Thanks and I agree. My wife is a personal trainer and unless you are willing to work 60 hrs a week, there is not a lot of money in it. I'm leaning toward something that combines my experience in the military and also can be done in the civilian world. Still researching though.
