So here’s my situation.. I am starting this online class. We are inport and will be getting underway halfway through the course. We have internet on board so I can finish the course except that the class requires a software plugin for internet explore that allows students to take exams online. I talked to the IT's today and was told that it wasn’t on the list of programs that they can just install. I was told to go through the ESO to see if they can ask that the software be added for educational purposes. I have talked to the ESO and he’s going to look into the situation tomorrow.
What I would like to know is if anyone knows if its possible to have this plugin installed, if there is away to ask that it be added, or if anyone can offer some help to assist me. Tomorrow is the last day I can withdraw from the class. I would have to withdraw from the class if I can't get the plug in added. Thanks, Boats |

Ask your IT to show you how to submit an LCCB request to your supporting ESU.

what's the plugin and what's the university? As mentioned above a simple LCCB request should suffice or maybe you can look into a non-standard workstation specifically for that application.

Plugin is called Testgen, and the school is Clark College out of Vancouver, WA. I have to use the Workstation III due that is only means of internet connection while underway. Thanks for your help. Will try to get with the ITs about LCCB request.

I took a look at the plugin, most certainly needs admin approval to add. If multiple people on your ship need to use this type of plugin then I would go with a non-standard machine. I know a couple of ships a few years ago had a non-standard laptop for educational purposes. maybe the ESO could get involved to help smooth the waters there.

Your IT staff should be able to provide the regulations as well as your district IT security manager. Check with them and see what they say.
