Was considering AMU but have been hearing that they are having accreditation issues. Has anyone heard of this or could possibly suggest/advise alternative routes? Need something online.
I know that the CG has approved them but I have heard that there are some organizations and states that do not. Considering the source it came from, I was skeptical, hence the post here.
I'm just finishing my BA and have nothing but good things to say about the school. Like "5216279" said, they are both regionally and nationally accredited and the professors have a plethora of professional experience.
This would be the first I have heard of any problems with AMU, I just searched for some answers to your statement and couldn't find anything. I'm finishing up my 8th class with 'em, and am still pluggin' away.
I'm also working on my Bachelor's here and they just got approval to start giving federal aide. Anyone has the right to refuse a degree from any school, but, however, comma, the federal government will not give you money to attend a school that has not been accredited through proper channels. They should be good to go anywhere at this time. A few years ago, 5 or 6, they were not regionally accredited which is what your source is probably talking about because at that time they were still setting up their curriculum and getting it approved being a "young" school.
Anyway, as the others have said. AMU is completely, legally, accredited and should be accepted everywhere except some traditional schools that want to argue about online learning.
I, too, have had a fantastic experience with AMU. I obtained a Masters in Homeland Security and a Graduate Certificate in CJ through them. I was able to apply for jobs and be accepted based on my academic background through them. Enrolling in AMU will be a great choice. I am looking forward to when they offer their doctorate programs. If you have specific questions, just email me.
The BEST part of AMU, and this is what I keep telling the guys that work for me, is if you are using your TA you don't pay for a thing. All books are already taken care of with AMU's "book grant." So with TA we can take 6 classes a year with ZERO $$$ spent! This is great!
I obtained an Associates in General Studies-Accounting through AMU, and I am currently working towards a Bachelors in Information Security. They are accredited through the DETC and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The professors hired by AMU typically have a Masters degree at a minimum and prior experience that relates to most of us. So far it has been an enjoyable experience; however, I must warn everyone, you will write a lot! Good luck and Merry Christmas!

Unfortunatley the book grant doesnt apply for grad students nor does TA cover full cost of the classes. Does anyone know of any other programs that will supplement, where I wont have to incur out of pocket expenses?
Sounds like I might have to apply for more student loans
Danger, there are colleges out there which TA will cover the entire tuition amount but the members is normally on their own for books and additional expenses. Liberty and Amberton University are two colleges that come to mind. Tuition for both undergrad/grad courses are under the cap.
AMU grad coures cost you $75 above what TA covers ($25/credit hour). The AMU book grant doesn't cover grad courses, but I have been lucky enough to find textbooks at http://www.campusbooks.com for dirt cheap. Haven't paid more than $40 for books yet.
