If you're interested in getting your USCG Captain's license and would like to chat with someone whose worked in all aspects of it, issuing and instructing, drop me an email or call. I got my license following my USCG sea time after a great Chief kept on me to make sure I did it. Now I'm encouraging other Coasties to get theirs, too. The course is even available online (you can see demo at www.marinersschool.com). Feel free to email or call 1-866-SEA-CAPT or me directly at CaptainJudy@MarinersSchool.com, (252)514-0015.

Sorry guys. Missed it in the terms. Thanks. Just passing it on and glad to help answer questions of anyone interested. Many have been gracious and glad for the info. Interesting to see there's still some of you charmers in the fleet, past and present. Especially you, Wray.

Gee Wray,

It must be nice, I am only on issue number 5 and have a charter fishing business and ran 75 eight to twelve hour trips last year. The boat is called RELENTLESS and we fish out of Green Harbor MA chasing tuna, cod, haddock, etc. Long days, not much profit but rewarding if you enjoy watching folks catch fish, especially the kids.

I highly encourage members with required sea time to get their license if they meet the requirements. I just started a new job as a Facilities/Operations Specialist for NOAA and part of the requirement of the job was to have a 100T license even though there is not a ton of days u/w running their R/V. Having a license opens more doors for folks after getting out especially those with engineering licenses.

All I can say is go for it and don't get overwhelmed with the process with all of the new requirements regarding fingerprints, BI'S etc.

Wray, I thought you were with VA, is this a part time gig?

Dave

Dave,
Left Virginia many years ago....no need to go back. In 1999 I retired in Ormond Beach... If I ever get up that way I'll look ya up.. my kids do love to go fishing... Here are some from Kew West a few years back...

Wray... Cool
P.S. Having a higher issue number on your license only means you are getting older Wink

Wray,

Nice looking Mahi Mahi, it has been years since I have caught them. I want to get down to FL and go swordfishing at night and head south for some Mahi also. Here are a few bluefin tuna from one of our trips this year. Nothing like fresh sushi, than again fresh cod fillets are excellent during the spring and fall.

Dave,
Isn't there another "Relentless" fishing out of Scituate owned by Donny White, Yellow 36' Albemarle?

Actually Don's boat is a 35' CABO and a beauty, I met him in Green Harbor this summer and he is a very nice gentleman. I am sure I will see him often as I just took a position working with for NOAA as a Facilities/Operations Specialist for the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary out of the old CG station Scituate. It is kind of ironic as it was my first CG Station back in 1978.

Hey Dave,
Your right, I've been fishing out of scituate of and on since the early sixtys. The SHYC tender use to drop me at the slow no wake sign to fish at the mouth of the harbor when I was between the ages of 6-9 after which I started fishing with Donnys brother Brad out of a 13' whaler. I continue to fish with Brad 40 years later in tournaments and some times for pleasure on his 33' Fortier. The two brothers are very good sportsman and sailors.\
Tight lines Capt,
Dick
