I just submitted, for the first time, a CG foundation and Vander Putten educational grant application. My ESO sent it off and was just wondering the tracking on this. I submitted it for my books. So does the check just show up or how do you know if was even approved???
Thanks for any help.

I've only done the Foundation and Mutual Assistance Grants. The foundation emailed me when they received everything (I just faxed it all in myself) and then emailed me again when it had been approved/selected and the check was on the way. It took a few months from what I recall.

Don't forget about the CGMA Supplemental Education Grant (SEG) too, good for $250.

I have been using all 3 grants for about 5 years now (on and off), and have a pretty good answer...

What HazelEyes said is correct. The Institute will email you once they receive your form, then again when they issue your check. What you must understand is that the grants are NOT a guaranteed "reimbursement" program. The money is donated by the Foundation, and distributed to the most deserving and qualifying applicants. Funding has been an issue over the last couple of years, with average application to check-in-hand time being 2+ months.

Last year I submitted a request later in the year, and received only 1/2 of my requested amount. I re-applied for the rest of it this calendar year.

Scotch makes an AWESOME point. The SEG is an awesome program as well, with some benefits over the CGF/VP grants. With the SEG, unlike the CGF/VP applications, you arent really competing with anyone, no CO endorsement, no eval marks needed, and best of all: YOU GET THE MONEY FAST! From what I see, your local SPO/PERSRU has a Mutual Assistance rep who screens the applications for the grants. If you did your form properly, have qualifying items, and there is money in the pot for the grants, you'll get the check mailed out from your local YN pretty quick.

On this note...

I submitted a CGF grant request about 2 weeks ago. I received an email today stating that the check is in the mail.

Looks like they have some funding. GET THOSE REQUESTS IN! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Quick question: Can the CGFSEG and/or the VanPutten Scholarship be used for a portion of tuition that tuition assistance doesn't cover? For example, I will end up paying about $1000 out of pocket this year for tuition. This is above what TA will pay.

If anyone should be curious... I finally received an answer to my question that I posted immediately prior to this post.

The answer is "Yes". It can be used to pay for non-covered tuition that exceeds the $4500 FY cap.
