Go to college for a subject you are interested in. I am going to school to become an psychologist. I was always the "go to person" for all my friend's problems and it was a hobby of mine to help people. Most of everything that I am learning I already figured out on my own but just learning the proper termonology of it. It is fun. I suggest you find something that you really like to do (I do not know your rate but considering you are in the coast guard you may have an interest in criminal justice, engineering, trade school subjects such as plumbing or electrical work or maybe you more into the sciences and like marine biology.) only you can answer what your interests are and find a school that offers those classes. You may also take CLEP courses to get the "boring classes" out of the way.

Although Excelsior College isn't the top school in New York State, it does take a decent amount of work to complete their courses. For one CD-Rom Course I have had to write a midterm consisting of 5 paragraphs, a final consisting of 5 paragraphs, an eight page term paper, and an additional term paper that was about 5 pages long. The midterm and final were both well over 2000 words when I completed them. It may seem easy at first, but given that you must complete the course within a 3 month period and you are working on active duty, it can be difficult. The online courses also require you to participate in weekly graded conversations about the required reading.

I think you should re-evaluate your goals and decide whether obtaining a degree is even worth your time. I have a feeling that once you start the process, you will never finish because it may be too much work for you.

Should have just made on up yourself on your computer. It would be just as valuable as the one you "ordered".

Well, hell. It's been 2 months. You can't be that proud, let's see a picture of this fine example of higher education.

I am currently studying online with Touro University International (TUI), formerly Touro University. As a medic with advanced training, I was awarded 60 semester credits for my CG "C"-Schools. That, along with traditional college credit, some dating back to 1979 Beer, and I had only eight courses to complete in order to receive my BS in Health Sciences. My 'gremlin' pretty much explains why I never finished traditional college. I looked at other schools, and while some seemed more attractive, they wouldn't give me as many credits as TUI did. I have taken two course with TUI so far, and I have to say that I'm impressed. I'm not overly enthralled, nor am I terribly challenged by the course load, and I'm more of a conventional learner, but the courses are interesting and are geared towards a career in healthcare, in whatever capacity I finally decide to utilize my degree. The school is regionally accredited with the Western Schools Association which covers the west coast and a couple of mountain states. I've heard that regional accreditation trumps national accreditation; don't ask me why. TA pays entirely for each course ($1,000), there are no books; one uses a CD and writes research papers based on certain topics. One can get by with minimal effort but will learn little and can still pass as long as one's writing and research skills are fair; if one really researches and puts a lot of effort into learning, then the information becomes relavent to a serious career and knowledge is gained. I hope to become either a drug and alcohol counselor or a nutritionist educator for a hospital, school, or nursing home. I invite those interested to check out the website. Peace. Smile
