I'm looking for a piece of paper that says I have a degree. Is their an online college that I can use my CG credits for that will get me my degree in basket weaving or whatever?
I'm not so much worried about the costs, just looking to get anything.
Fill out an education assessment and submit through your ESO to the CG Institute. Getting started
The form has recently been updated, but it used to have a check box for fastest approach to a degree. I would write that in the degree plan section.
This is a good first step either way, you'll need to send your CG transcript to any school you apply to. Good luck, be persistent, and use TA and the education grants available while your in.
There are vast quantities of paper mills that will give you a fancy piece of paper for your money.
The only thing you need to worry about is whether or not the job your are applying for checks you diploma's school against one of the accrediting associations for higher learning.
For whatever school you are looking at, check here. If it doesn't come up, you might want to think of looking elsewhere.
sometimes a degree is not what you want or need. maybe getting a certification is more inline with your goals. we need just as many vocational papers than degreed folks.
I am appalled that anyone would think that buying a BS degree is a way to "get ahead". There is a reason to attend school. If you REALLY WANT IT, you will do it. If you're just too lazy, then go work at Burger King. They have an apprentice program.
I spent about 30 years working in the private sector. I worked in high tech, specifically the personal computer industry. I will tell you unequivocally that I NEVER hired someone because they had a degree. In addition, I never DIDN'T hire someone because they lacked a degree.
As resumes of college graduates crossed my desk I always looked to see what their degree was in. Many took the path of least resistance and had degrees that were totally irrelevant to the position they had applied for. A degree in kinesiology may be great if you are applying for a physical therapists job, but it really doesn't do much for me if I need a product designer..... I have worked with some folks that had degrees and were incapable of pouring piss out of a boot if the directions were written on the heel.
I have worked with others that did not have degrees that were the best and brightest employees we had.
Oh, that company I worked for was called Apple Computer.....started by two young guys with questionable work history and no degrees.
I ended up as an Engineering Project Mgr., amongst other managerial positions.....and I have no degree.
Its KNOWLEDGE and attitude that are the most important. Many that attend college walk out with a degree but did not pick up the education they were there for.
The single greatest thing a person should develop is their communication skills, both written and verbal.
Here is a website for you people so willing to invest in your future, www.cheap-degrees.com. I can only imagine what your work ethic is. If you have been in the Coast Guard anytime and have not used any of the vast resources available to you, shame on you, you lazy b******s. What were you doing on duty nights, days underway, etc.?
That Ashwood University (Cheap Degrees) site is interesting. The site states Ashwood is accredited, yet I ran it through the accreditation site I posted and there's no record found.
Try Excelsior College (excelsior.edu) for an accredited university that will accept more of your CG credit than any other school. Don’t look for it to look impressive on a resume, but you will have an accredited, transferable degree.
You might have to actually take a few classes though....you going to be alright?
