For all coasties on here who are pursuing a degree just curious to know what you are majoring in. Also for those of you who already have a degree are you satisfied with your major or would you have picked something else?

I received a BSBA, which seemed like something I could use after the CG. I got tired of Business (really the stats classes) and decided to try a Masters in Education. I'm in my Third semester and enyoy it more than any of the Business classes. Maybe after the MAED I'll try something else.

I am finishing my BA in Geography this June. I am concentrating on GIS, which has a ton of job opportunity right now. Its a really growing field. Just google search GIS jobs, and you will find hundreds. There are a bunch with the government as well, if you search GIS on US jobs, you can find them.

Got my Bachelors in Econ in 2000- I really loved it- it's a bit of math/art/common sense at the same time. Bad thing is for the CG I never really used it much though, except you have a better understanding of international politics over and above most people.

In hindsight I wished I could've majored in another language like Spanish or Chinese or something.

I have my masters in urban planning and I agree with WatchstanderOS about GIS- totally growing field and lots of $$. CG needs to spend more on it and get it out in the field more. But a bit too much computer for me.

I myself am a Liberal Studies major which I love! I earned my first AA in General Studies with American Military University. I then complete my second AA with the University of Phoenix. I will graduate from Excelsior with my Bachelors in Liberal Studies this July. I hope to attend Excelsior or Fort Hayes for my Master in Liberal Studies next!

I took high school for granted and was not a good student but now I love school and I enjoy being a Liberal Studies major

I'm getting my degree in Sports and Health Sciences. I think I want my grad degree either in Physical Therapy or maybe just nutrition, not sure yet.

I have two B.S degrees in environmental science and biology, with an emphasis on botany. I have also started my M.S in conservation biology and will be continuing it.

I'm thinking I'll go for my PhD eventually as well. Heh, the USCG pays for us to go to school, why not use it?

I am 150% happy with my degrees and absolutely love my chosen field (field biology.) I get paid money to be outside all day long and hike in places most people never go. I've held endangered birds in my hands and watched salmon I've caught earlier in the week in the throws of mating.

Biology is amazing.

Did you get your degrees while in the CG? How were you able to do that? Thats one reason I ended up changing my major, because of the difficulty of scheduling lab courses.

Anymore, due to the surplus of persons holding a BS or BA degree, a college diploma is nothing but an expensive lottery ticket.

Most persons are willing to go thousands of dollars into debt to earn a sheepskin just for the opportunity to compete with the thousands of other college graduates for shrinking job opportunities.

The best education that you can obtain won't get you into debt. You won't have to please an overly biased professor. There are no tests.

The best education is that which you pursue at your public library or in bookstores. The best teacher is yourself.

Employers aren't necessarily looking for the credential of a college diploma as they are looking for the ability for a potential employee to be able to do some creative thinking for him or herself. That includes mathematical reasoning and the ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees and with the customer - two skills found to be severely lacking by recent college graduates.

One of the best things that you can do is to committ yourself to a habit of lifelong learning. This involves a lot of self-directed reading. But instead of having to study what someone else is interested in, you get to study what YOU'RE interested in.

As mentioned, the best part of a self-directed education is that, outside of the price of books and magazines or, overdue fines from the library, it doesn't cost alot.

Currently AS/BS with Penn State World Campus. I'm thinking of transfering to a local community college to maximize CG credits.
