A few years ago I was told by a co-worker that a recent Florida law allowed children of Active Duty Military members to attend ANY public school they desired as long as that school had room for them and the parent could provide transportation. I've looked high and low for this policy in writing but have had no luck. Has anyone out there taken advantage of this or know where I might re-direct my search efforts? Thanks in advance..
We asked our local elementry school (teacher and admin) who knew nothing of the policy.. But said "they would look into the issue".. I think I know how that's going to turn out..
hmmmm...dunno about this being a military only thing or an all schools thing.
I DO know that some public schools in FL are designated as 'open enrollment' based on there being space available and then 'anyone' can enroll there if they assume transportation resp'bility.
The HS my daughter attends is such a school ....
I believe you can determine what schools are via the respective county school board web sites...at least I know that's where I first saw that for our school.
Look on Miami Dade school districts website. I think thats where I found it. My son is supposed to go to a school about 5 miles from here, but we send him to the closest school thats about a mile from here.
Hernando County has that information on the School Board's website. My kids have used it for two years and are able to catch the bus to the non-zoned school. Granted the bus stop is a block away.
