Hello,

I am currently enrolled in a class which is about to end. I have requested a course extension through my instructor and it has been approved by her. The way that my school does Course Extensions is they give the student an "I" (incomplete) for the class and then give you 60 days to complete the class and when it is complete, the final grade is given.
I heard that anytime you get an "I" for a grade that you have to pay back the TA.
1) Is this true?
2) If so is there any kind of form or waiver that I can send in to notify that it is an "I" because of course extension?

Also if they do decide to make me pay it back, will they wait and see if a grade report comes in or will they just take it all out of my pay at once.

The school is Excelsior College if that helps for any reason.

Thanks for the help

Do you report your grade or does your school? From my understanding, as long as you are still enrolled in the course and working towards the credits, you will not have to pay it back.

Double check with your ESO just to make sure.
I had to get an extension for a temp deployment and everything worked out fine. That was with AMU though.

Good Luck

Don't worry about it. As long as you're enrolled in the course, and finish it, you'll be fine. It will take a while (3-4 weeks after the course completion date) before you get a letter from NETPDTC (The Navy folks who run the TA Program) that they have not received a grade for your course. Call the number on the letter and just tell them you're still enrolled and working on an extension.

Excelsior is bad about taking forever to forward grades to NETPDTC. I took 10 courses through Excelsior to complete my BS Degree. I got those letters from NETPDTC after AT LEAST 4 courses.

All you have to do is email your Military Advisor (at the college) and tell them to forward the grade to NETPDTC.

I'm on my 4th course towards a Masters with AMU. Haven't had the "No Grade Letter" from NETPDTC once!

Good luck!

Just notify your ESO of your new course end date and you'll be fine. I've had to do this with a couple of courses.

An "I" (incomplete) does not mean immediate collection. When your school grants you and extension and it is submitted to the CG Institute (TA), your course actually is extended. When you submit an "I", you have no more than 6 months after the original course end date to provide a grade to the Tuition Assistance office before collection actions are started. However, please do not expect your school to grant an extension to your course, you should do everything you can to complete the course in the allotted time frame and get the grade sheet to the TA department (not the Navy) ASAP. Also, it is best to give your grade sheet to your ESO for submission since they have access to TACCTS which is the most secure and guaranteed method of submissions to the TA department.
