By the sounds of it, I maybe short touring or transferring a year early. So my question is will I maintain my priority or will I be left for last and receive a few picks that are considered bottom of the barrel? Thanks for any insight...

You should maintain your priority as long as you have completed at least one year at your unit and are being transfered for "needs of the service". i.e it's not a HUMS or something where your needs or actions require a transfer.
