Dude, don't fear the servicewide. Just study the course material. I wouldn't worry about it too much. They've cleared the list every servicewide for quite a few years now. It seems that they give EM2 away like candy now.

Dromon, I see you are an E-3. Have you ever taken the servicewide? That advice isn't very sound advice.

The course material is great for the EOCT. The servicewide covers everything from the course material to the references used to write the course material. A great way to study for the servicewide exam is to study those references. If you log into CG Central and go to the EM microsite, there is a list of references for you to get your study information from.

Now that being said, if you desire to make EM2, you can't just take the attitude of, "they are giving it away so I can study the very least and still make it", that attitude will come back to bite you in the a55. As an EM2, I was put into the senior electrician role on a ship for close to a year because my first transferred out and my Chief had medical issues, which he has since recovered from. My point is you never know what is going to happen to you in your career and it is up to you to acquire the knowledge that helps you to succeed.

Yeah, I hadn't updated my file for a couple of years, thanks for pointing that out. My point was that the SWE doesn't have to be scary. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned that the Coast Guard is giving it away, but that doesn't change the facts. The list has been cleared as far back as any one I asked could remember.

I guess someone did not read the force notes where we are short on 22 EM's in the whole rate. They did use to give EM1 and EM2 away. But now I think it is going to slow down like it did in the 90's. Just glad i am making EMCS this summer but in all reality that's probably as far as I will be able to achieve as EMCM is blocked for quite a while.

My advice is to study your prac's as that is where Master Chief gets the questions for the SWE. Not the course material because that is fot EOCT. Good luck to those taking the SWE. i feel your pain. For once I do not have to take the test and am glad for it.

crusty,
Don't be so sure. It's important to remember that 3 (out of 11?) EMCM billets are on big red boats. People who claim to be super salty fold up shop and retire all the time when faced with those orders. There is hope.
