I have a Honda VTX 1300. It is very suitable for me because I like to do a lot of back road riding as well as long highway trips. It is a good bike for both. If you are considering getting a motorcycle you need to first ask yourself how you will be using it.

I like the seat..on that bike AJ and i have never owned a kick start..what's the pro' con's of that??

I wanted a enduro (old school) bike for work/fun but decided to buy a streetbike now and a 2nd bike later probably just dirt..maybe a ke100 if they still make them or equielivant.

small bikes are fun..i really don't need a huge bike..for long trips i,ll take a car..i am not trailering anything more than i have too.

I've decided on the Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic in blue. But, in shopping around and researching, I've gotten REALLY into these things. Figured a few of y'all probably are too.

900 might be nice..is this you,re main sorce of transportation?

just wondering..my bike is a local run around..any distance and i,ll take the truck or my wifes car.

1 advanage to the above bike as well as my own..no raditor to go wrong..its also a 1 lunger..no mercury gage need to intune the carbarators. Wink

what ever you buy don't skimp on tires ..or ride with maypops..bad news..and keep the shiney side up.

I bought it in '73 and I'm on the second battery, it has a magneto so it ran with a dead battery for about 20 years. You can start it using your arm, it kicks over with very little effort. Just something fun to own and I guess at my age I will have it till I die. Not a bike for daily transportation.....Its very primitive by todays standards....no heated seat Frown

That's still a really good bike ... I remember they would wind up, like forever.

I wish I had a bike ... but "She Who Must Be Obeyed" says no.

I bought two off Ebay last December. They are basically a source of getting me out of my cave that I've been in since going out on a Disability Retirement in '06. I know, I know, hurt your legs so get a motorcycle?

Anyway, I own a 1980 Yamaha XS1100SG and a 1981 XS1100SH. The '81 was included as a parts bike but it was as good as the '80 so I thought there was no way I was going to end the life of that bike.

Back in my high school days, 1981, my dad and I went in halves on a 1981 Yamaha 850 Special so these 1100 Specials sort of take me back to my younger days....call it a mid-life crisis. Big Grin

Here's my '80. I'm still rebuilding the '81.

Nice! I am working on a 650 Special. Hasnt been ran in almost 20 years, but is in great physical condition. I've heard though that these bikes can be an electrical nightmare........

I've had 4 over the years. I learned to ride on a '68 Triumph Bonneville and a year later bought a '66 BSA Lightning. Bought a '72 BSA and then sold it (regretfully) and didn't ride again for 10 years. I had a 1977 (I think that was the year) Honda 750-4 and hated it. Last year I bought the Best Bike Ever Made - a 2000 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Nomad FI. I've put 9,000 miles on it since then. It's not the most economical bike in the world - around 40 - 42 mpg. That might seem ok until you find that it takes premium - so it's a trade off. It's a great ride though and other than oil changes (and a new set of Metzlers) it's been trouble free. The best part is - I bought it for 5800 bucks.

I used to have a Harley. My ex husband and I would go up to a place on Gaffey St and hill climb. I'd make it to the top without any problems. One guy didn't have enough speed to go up the hill. The motorcycle rolled down the hill, he followed... Big Grin

Nice Nomad! I also have looked at the Vulcan 900s, but would like to get a nomad. I wish the nomads came in the solid colors like the 900s and not just black or two-tone.

Had a black Vulcan 750 years ago.

Grew up on dirt bikes: Honda MR50 and XR75.
