I say this because of his late night trip to Dover Air Base to be present at the arrival of our dead troops returning from battle.
Out of the 18 dead that came back one family gave him permission for the photo op. Don't dare tell me President Bush or any other President has done this, I don't think so. Just what is his motive? What does he hope to accomplish? For me this administration just sank a little bit lower. One correction President Bush did view the dead returning from battle he did it in private not making a media event out of it!! |

Well, yeah, I think he is a media hound. How do you think a community organizer, whatever that is, with a few years in the Illinois legislature and not quite a full term as U.S. Senator, got elected in the first place?
The lamestream media loves the guy and he loves them back. |

Chief:
The President made the trip unannounced and in the middle of the night where he privately met with the families. While a photo was later released afterward, as you mention, it was with the permission of the family. Plenty of valid concerns are being publicly expressed in the policy arena right now w/ respect to the administration's tepid support for the needs and resources of the Combatant Commander and his tactical commander on the ground to enact effective COIN measures in Afghanistan, but I personally really do not see the President's visit as one of them. Speaking of honoring war casualties and those who have served, my USCG sources tell me the COMDT will lay a wreath at the CG Memorial at Arlington at 1300 local on Veterans Day. Respectfully, Surface Force No good deed goes unpunished. |

Personally, I applaud the president for making the trip to honor these people that gave all in the name of their country. Anyone that uses this to attack the president ought to stop using the bodies for political gain.
Well done Mr. President! |

Facts.
Based on past behavior and typical liberal rhetoric... I'm thinking it's less about real compassion and more about a perceived god guy photo op. |

No one but the President and his administration will know why they got the photo.
They had to know this would cause controversy, what with the questions about adding more troops to the Afgan theater.

Perhaps he went to reflect on the true cost of war before making a decision that will result in many more of these arrivals, if thats the case then more power to him. I wish more of our elected officials would view our dead soldiers as more than just an anti-war rally cry or a number on the evening news.
If he did it as a publicity stunt then that is unacceptable. I have seen wierder stuff from politicians, but that would be borderline sick and cross the line. |

To all you folks that think the president had agenda - you're misinformed idiots. First off - Bush and (draft dodger) Cheny never, never made a trip to Dover AFB to witness the return of dead American servicemen. Yes, Bush met with the families in private and visited some in the hospital. Keep in mind, there was a media blackout (up until seven months ago) on filming the coffins coming off the planes - something the first Bush imposed. There was no preplanning with the families of the deceased and they knew nothing of President Obama's plans to be on hand. Each family was asked if they wanted the filming to take place - only one family said yes and then they were notified of the president's plans to be on hand. Stop watching so much of your news on Fox and get the facts before you write.

Speaking of misinformed idiots... President Bush often visited the wounded. He just never did it in front if cameras. President Bush often visited with the families of killed military members. He just never did it in front of cameras. He never had cameras because he was doing it for pure purposes and not for the media. Why must liberals always point toward Bush when Obama's actions are questioned. What ever happen to change? |

I am not sure of the reason for the visit so I will not comment along those lines. But I do believe this President is a media darling. They love him and cater to everything to try and prop him up to something I don't believe he is. He loves them for their efforts. I saw a comment earlier on here calling president Bush and "draft dodger", a commander in chief who at least served the military in some way. Unlike some presidents I know who seem to get a pass from these people.

Mike,
I think if you look again someone called Cheney a draft dodger, a shoe that fits perfectly. |

Cheney...as the moderate noted above... Relevent! Clinton though, who not only dodged but spoke out against his nation...irrelevent! Gotta love the hypocrisy and the left leaning media. Note: If you're gonna go back and dog a past sitting VP, why not dog a past Pres? Oh yeah, R's held to certain standards, D's don't have standards. This message has been edited. If President Obama is anything, it is definitely not a media hound. Just recently, his administration prohibited FOX news from participating in one of his media events. Seems to me if he was a "media hound" he would want all of the media outlets present.
Oops, my mistake, that was simply censorship. |

Here, Here!! I had to look this up to verify it. Yes Preident Bush did often meet with the families and send personal notes to some. I heard it on the news yesterday that the number of familes and wounded visited might have been in the thousands. I haven't had a chance to fact check that though. Nor if President Bush ever visited Dover. The usual websites say he never did. That is possible although I haven't seeen anything to confirm that. President Bush could have without a lot of fanfare (and media in tow) and most folks might not have noticed. He did things like that. So caution is in store until confirmed. So....humble advice for the kool-aid drinkers....make sure you fact check the talking points before repeating them as fact. |
